Symptoms of Insomnia:
Poor Concentration throughout the day and evening.
Awaking tired, confused and depressed
Having a hard time functioning and accomplishing certain tasks during your "awake" time.
Tossing and turning at nighttime unable to fall asleep.
Waking multiple times during the night and then unable to fall back to sleep.
These are just a few symptoms of insomnia and If you go 24 hours without any sleep my first step would be to consult a doctor and get a proper diagnosis.
Some causes of insomnia may be:
Napping if you take a lot of naps during the day can cause you to have a hard time getting to sleep in the evening.
Caffeine and Sugar are one of the top ones that can cause you to have a hard time getting to sleep.
Nicotine- this additive can cause sleeplessness.
There are many medical conditions that a person may have that can cause sleeplessness some of these but not limited to are :
Breathing problems, Asthma, Emphysema or Pneumonia can cause sleeplessness and restlessness in a person.
Changing your sleep schedule or traveling to a different time zone can have an adverse effect on your body as well.
There are so many factors and changes in ones life that can lead to sleep disorders its important to try and achieve a certain schedule of sleep or consult your doctor to avoid damage to ones health.
Some natural Remedies to assist with better sleeping are:
Honey is believed to hold properties to aid in sleeping add it to milk or water before bed.
A massage will aid in relaxing tired muscles and help you get to sleep.
Avoid caffeine and sugar in the evenings. This can cause sleepless and restlessness.
There are many plants and extracts that are effective in aiding with insomnia
Valerian tea and Valerian root extract: I have never tried the tea but you can make it at home by adding ground Valerian root to hot water I believe its 1tsp per 1cup water.
The Valerian Root extract is available in pill form and can be found at most vitamin stores. I found mine in a Dollar Store and It does seem to hold a relaxation property at least to me it did.
Raw Onion eating this is a wives tale my grandmother always used if she was restless. She would eat a piece of raw onion with bread and she swears by this remedy.
Celery Juice is another remedy known to aid in getting to sleep, I do not know where this is sold but I imagine a vitamin store would be aware of this.
There are also some plants that are known for their " sleepy" qualities- Chamomile, Hops and passionflower are a few.
These are just a few aids that might assist you in your quest for a good nights sleep and I hope they do, but again if in doubt consult a doctor.
