Home Remedies for Itchy Skin Relief

Bev Cohen
Itchy skin can make a person crazy. Usually the more you itch, the worse the itch gets. There are many causes of itchy skin including dry weather; bug bites; and allergic reactions to perfumes or chemicals in detergent, skin soaps, or other body products.

Although there are many store products sold promising relief of itchy skin, there's no need to spend money on those products. And, funny enough, some of those products contain fragrance which will actually make the itching worse. Perhaps the manufacturers think they can trick us into thinking if the product smells good, it's going to help.

There are home remedies that can be used for the relief of itchy skin. They are simple, contain no fragrance, and are inexpensive. Give them a shot. You've got nothing to lose but the itch!

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a great home remedy for itchy skin. Aloe Vera is gel from an aloe plant that contains vitamin E which is known to help heal skin. Aloe vera also contains antifungal and antibacterial agents that help destroy certain causes of itchy skin.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can provide relief for itchy skin. You can use it in a number of ways. Baking soda can be used in a bath which is great for widespread or hard to reach areas. Just add 1 cup of baking soda to a tub of warm water. Or you can use it as a paste by mixing 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and applying to the affected area.

Oatmeal

A warm oatmeal bath is a good way to relieve itchy skin. Just add 1-2 cups of finely ground oatmeal to a warm (not hot) bath.

Vinegar

Vinegar is also effective in providing relief for itchy skin. You can soak a cotton ball in vinegar and apply to affected area. Let the vinegar sit on skin for approximately half an hour and rinse off.
