Home Remedies for Mosquito Bites

Oh the joys of summer. There are so many to list. There are the smells of barbecues. There are the bright colors of country fairs. There is your child hitting a home run at the baseball game. There are the sounds of children screaming with joy as school is finished. The night sky is lit up with the bright display of fire works. Wait a minute! What is that sound? It sounds like a small humming sound, an annoying buzz that is next to your ear. You duck to get away from it. Oh good, you do not hear the buzzing anymore. Oh no, you just realize something. The buzzing stopped because a little blood sucking female has found its target. You feel itching on your arm and realize that it is too late. A vampire has just bitten your arm. Yes, a vampire of the insect world, a female blood-sucking mosquito is making a meal of you. Soon you will have a bump on your arm and it will itch. There is nothing to worry about. There are many home remedies that will take care of the bite and the itch that comes with it.

The first thing you want to do when you get bitten is to clean your wound. You do not want that bite to get infected. Soap and water will be effective. However, rubbing alcohol will lessen the itch and clean the area at the same time.

Honey has many antibacterial properties. Take a dab of honey and put it on the bite. The itch will go away almost immediately.

Clay will work wonders on mosquito bites. If you cannot find clay from your own back yard, you can use pottery clay.

Make a paste out of baking soda and water. If your body is full of mosquito bites, fill your bathtub with warm water. Add a cup of baking soda to it and soak for fifteen minutes. You can also make a paste out of oatmeal and baking soda.

Garlic works wonders two ways. It has excellent antibacterial properties. Rob garlic oil on your bite and the itch will go away. You can do this by rubbing a clove on the bite. You can also buy garlic oil in the gel capsule form at the drug store. Break the capsule apart and rub the oil on the bite. Your itch will go away. Maybe there is something in the myth of fighting vampires with garlic. Mosquitoes hate garlic. Eating a clove of garlic a day keeps the mosquitoes away.

If you are scratching at the mosquito bite, you may accidentally scratch too hard and make it bleed. There may be the possibility of getting an infection where the bite is. Salt is an excellent way to fight infection. Get a paper towel and wet it with water. Sprinkle some table salt on it and put the towel on the bite.

If you are at a picnic and get bitten, reach into the cooler and pull out an ice cube. Put the ice on the bite to prevent the bite from swelling.

Mosquitoes may be tiny. However, when it comes to bites, they are a very big nuisance. All the above home remedies will work wonders to relieve you of your mosquito bite itch. However, since mosquitoes have a reputation for spreading diseases, the best remedy is prevention. While some of the remedies also work as excellent repellents, if you are still being dive-bombed by the little vampires, you may have to go to the drug store to set something stronger.
