Sharon Morris
Oily hair is fairly common, although rather annoying. You wash you hair with shampoo and conditioner and style it real nice only to have it feel and look oily still after it dries. There are several reasons one might have oily hair. These include genes; if your mom or dad has oily hair, you might too. Other factors for oily hair include hormone problems, and hair texture. Also if you are using steroids to increase your body mass, oily hair is a common side effect. Hormones play an important role if you have menstrual problems or are using birth control pills. Your hair texture is one cause because if you have fine hair then it takes up less room on the scalp and the more hair you have and the finer you hair is the more oil there is. Each hair follicle is supplied with two or three oil glands. There are home remedies from your own kitchen you can use to treat oily hair.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair: Alcohol

Alcoholic beverages have a nice drying effect. The more alcohol content the better it is to dry out your hair. Mix a shot glass full of any kind of alcohol with two cups of water and rinse your hair with it. Any kind of alcohol will work.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair: Apple Cider Vinegar

To help control shampoo build up and make your hair nice and soft, add ΒΌ cup of apple cider vinegar to a small basin of water and soak your hair in it. You can also put apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray your hair with it. Make sure to wash it out with warm water.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair: Tea

Tea contains tannic acid which can get rid of the oil in your hair. Rinse your hair in diluted tea to help treat oily hair.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair: Lemon Juice

Squeeze the juice from one lemon and mix it with one cup of water. Rinse you hair with the lemon juice and water to treat oily hair. Make sure to rinse your hair with warm water afterwards. Lemon juice also helps control shampoo build up.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair: Vinegar Rinse

Try an acidic rinse with vinegar and water. After shampooing your hair, mix two tablespoons of white vinegar to a cup of water and rub it in your hair and rinse with warm water. This will decrease the oil in your hair.

Other Things You can do to Treat Oily Hair

Shampoo every day. If you have a problem with oily hair, shampooing every day can help get rid of the oil build up.

You can also add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to your shampoo to help cut the grease out. If you don't like the idea of using dishwashing liquid, there are many kinds of shampoo's you can use to help cut the excess grease out. These might be more expensive so think about trying dishwashing liquid as it is cheaper.

Make sure you rinse your hair really good. Whatever shampoo you use, rinse it out good so the shampoo won't build up. Also rinsing good will keep the soap residue from collecting dirt and oil.

Try not to condition your hair too often or don't do it at all if you have a problem with oily hair. Conditioner can cause your hair to become more oily. If you must use it, only use it once or twice a week and only on the ends of your hair if it dries out too much.

Don't brush your hair too much. Every time you drag the brush through your hair, you are pulling oil out of your scalp and putting it through your hair. Cut back on the brushing.
