Home Remedies for Oily Skin

Keep Your Face Clean and Oil-Free

Crystal Ray
Oily skin is a problem for many, and there are products available for controlling oily skin on the face, but store-bought specialty products and masks are often quite expensive, and unfortunately, these expensive products don't always work. Instead of buying expensive oily skin remedies, consider a natural alternative.

There are home remedies you can use to treat an oily face, and these home remedies are low-cost and effective. Best of all, home remedies for controlling oily skin on the face are free of chemicals, perfumes, and other harsh ingredients. Try the following home remedy to treat your oily face, and hopefully this natural home remedy will keep your skin looking and feeling clean and fresh all day long.

Precautions Regarding Home Remedies for Oily Skin

If you have sensitive skin or are prone to skin allergies, preform a patch test before applying any home remedy to your face. Place a small amount of a questionable remedy on the inside of your elbow or wrist, and cover it with a waterproof bandage. After twenty-four hours, remove the bandage and exam the area. If redness or irritation has occurred, consider another option, or consult a dermatologist for professional advice.

Cleansing Oily Skin

Before applying homemade facial masks and skin treatments for oily skin, it's important to properly clean your face, but don't make the mistake of using products that aren't specifically meant for oily skin. Cold cream, and some facial cleansers are oil-based, and they aren't appropriate for oily skin. Moisturizers that contain oil will cleanse the skin, but they will cause an already oily face to become even more greasy.

Find a low-cost facial soap formulated specifically for oily skin. Fill a basin with warm water, and saturate your face with the water. Make a thick lather with soap of your choice, and apply the soap to your face using a gentle circular motion. Rinse away the lather with the warm soapy water, and preform a second rinse with clean warm water. Lastly, finish by rinsing the face with clean, cool water, and pat your face dry with an absorbent towel. Cleanse your face in this manner, morning and night. This should help keep oily skin clean and under control.

Oatmeal and Honey Mask

An oatmeal and honey mask can be very effective for treating oily skin. Simply make a paste using uncooked oatmeal, honey, and lemon juice. Spread this mixture on your face, and use extreme caution around the eyes. Leave the mask on for about ten minutes, and rinse it off with warm water. Dab your face dry with an absorbent towel.

This oatmeal and honey mask should leave your face feeling clean and refreshed. Apply this natural home remedy once a day, or as often as desired, to keep your skin soft, smooth, and oil-free.

I have a slightly oily t-zone and there has been a noticeable decrease in the overall oiliness of my skin since I started using the pH Balanced Moisturizer from Made from Earth skincare line. I would recommend this and a face wash in conjunction if you have oily skin.

I use my face wash in the shower and then apply the PH Balanced Moisturizer when I get out.
