Pet Remedies-Most cats get ear mites. These are the little bugs that make black looking stuff in your cat's ears. There is a simple and yet easy way to eliminate this pesky problem. All you need to do is put a few drops of either baby oil or cooking oil into the cat's ears. Then you wipe them out with a cotton ball. If you do this treatment three days in a row you will smother the ear mites and help heal the ears.
Fleas are also another irritating problem for not only your pets, but also for you. If you have ever bought flea products, you know they can get rather costly and most do not work very well. All you need is to by a bottle of Dawn dish soap from now on. It has to be Dawn though because no other brand kills the fleas. Just wash your pets with Dawn like you normally would with soap and then rinse them completely. If you do not rinse them good, your pet's skin will become irritated.
It's rather annoying when your dog comes inside on a rainy day and you have that nasty wet dog smell all over the house. Stop the odor in its tracks by rubbing a dryer sheet like Bounce all over your dog. You will get rid of the smell before it gets into your furniture.
Human Remedies-When you get a headache and do not want to take pain relievers because of the side effects, you can drink a large bottle of Gatorade and most of the time it will do the trick.
When you burn yourself and don't have any Aloe Vera around, use Colgate toothpaste instead. It works as an excellent cream for burns.
If you have a stuffed up nose just pop a few Altoids in your mouth. These strong little mints are enough to help you breath better without over the counter medicine that has unknown chemicals in them.
To relieve aching muscles make massage oil that contains a cup of olive oil and a tablespoon of horseradish.
To banish a sore throat mix ¼ a cup of vinegar with ¼ a cup of honey. Then all you do is take a tablespoon six times a day, it works because the vinegar kills bacteria and honey soothes the throat.
I'm sure most of you women and some of you men are familiar with the pain of a urinary tract infection. All you need is to dissolve two tablets of Alka-Seltzer into a glass of water and drink it when you first get the feeling of a UTI coming on.
Did you know that honey will banish pimples overnight? If you have a blemish that you want gone, put a little honey on it and put a Ban-aid over it. Honey is a natural way to kill bacteria.
Listerine or Vicks Vapor Rub are the answers for toenail fungus, all you do is soak your feet in Listerine or rub Vicks onto the toenails to revitalize your nasty toenails.
If you wear glasses, one time in your life you will lose a screw. They best thing to keep those screws from falling out is to apply some clear fingernail polish to the screw threads before you tighten them up. Then just tighten like you would normally. You are basically gluing the screws in, but not to the point you can't get them out again.
Have you ever used cleaners as a way to try to kill bugs? Most don't work, but I have found two that do: Formula 409 and Pinesol. Formula 409 will kill all sorts of bugs dead in their tracks. Pinesol will kill ants, plus drive away Fiddleback or as some of you may know them as Brown Recluse Spiders.
Have you ever had a splinter that just doesn't want to come out? Put Elmer's glue on it and let it dry, then peel off the glue and out comes the splinter too.
If you've ever had a boil, you know how painful they are. First of all they are already sore, and then you have to get the nasty pus out of them for them to heal, which makes them even more painful. Instead of going to the doctor and having them lanced open and paying a huge doctor bill, try one of these three remedies. Cover the boil with tomato paste and the acids will bring it to a head where you can pop it with a pin or needle. The second is to grate a potato into pieces and put on the boil and hold on with a bandage. It will bring it to a head also, but with a lot more discomfort as the potato makes your skin itch. The third is what I always use. When you crack an egg, that is a raw egg, you need to save the shell. You need to peel out the white membrane from inside the shell, which is easier done if the egg has set a while, such as an hour or two. Then you place the membrane on the boil and it will draw the pus out. You will notice a relief over night.
If you have ever gotten new shoes, you have probably experienced a blister. When they burst they can become infected easily, so stop this from happening by putting Listerine on it.
Everyone has had a bruise before. You can decrease healing time by holding a vinegar soaked cotton ball on the bruise for just one hour.
If you have arthritis in your hands and fingers, think oatmeal for relief. Mix two cups of quick oats into one cup of water and warm it in the microwave for one minute, you don't want to let it go any longer or it will burn you. Cool it a little and then place your hands in it.
There are two great sunburn relievers: vinegar and tea bags. All you do is put vinegar on the sunburned area; it will reduce the fever and give an instant relief. Do not use on a very bad sunburn though!!! It will burn very bad. For the tea bag solution, just boil the tea bags like you were making iced tea. Save the tea and bags. Put the tea in the refrigerator to cool it off. Then all you do is soak the tea bags in the tea and place on the sunburned area. It will not only draw out the heat, but it will also soothe the burnt area.
For wasp or bee stings there are two remedies also. If you have someone around you that dips Skoal, Copenhagen, or any other type of tobacco, place it straight of the can onto the sting. It will draw out the poison and often stop a person who is allergic from having a serious reaction. You can also mix baking soda with just enough water to make it into a tacky paste. Put it on the sting and it too will draw out the poison and stop from any serious reactions from occurring.
If you get swimmer's ear you can either boil your ears out with peroxide or put a few drops of vinegar and alcohol mixed together. The peroxide will get the water out and the vinegar-alcohol mixture will restore the ears acidic balance.
Diaper rash and other types of rashes used to always be banished with cornstarch; believe it or not it works better than actual talc powder because it does not have as fine of particles.
With most remedies, some work better than others. Every person is bound to find one of these that they like. It is a great idea to try one before you go to the doctor to get costly treatment. A lot of the time, good old home remedies work before you will need to go to your doctor. Take in mind; these will not fully supply a need for a doctor!
