Home Remedies to Remove Green Tint from Blonde Hair Caused by Swimming Pool Water
Green Isn't from Chlorine
What can be done to remove the green tint caused by hard metals in pool water? Are there home remedies that effectively remove the green tint? Fortunately, there are a few home remedies for removing green stains from blonde hair. These remedies have been used by swimmers, and many have found these remedies very effective.
The following home remedies will help you remove green stains from your blonde hair, or the blonde hair of a friend or loved one. Begin with the easiest method first, and continue trying the following methods until you find a home remedy to easily and effectively remove the green tint caused by swimming pool water.
Before Trying Home Remedies
If you have sensitive skin, use caution when applying home remedies such as the home remedies listed here. Test a small area of the skin to check for an allergic reaction or skin sensitivity.
Aspirin
Aspirin is good for more than pain relief and clot prevention. Aspirin is also used to remove green stains from blonde hair. Simply place eight regular aspirins in a glass of warm water, and allow them to dissolve. Saturate the hair with the aspirin and water, and after approximately fifteen minutes, rinse away the aspirin along with the green tint. Wash and condition the hair as usual.
Tomato Juice
Tomato juice is said to effectively remove green coloring from blonde hair, leaving it shiny and very manageable. The acid in the tomato juice helps remove the undesirable color. Simply pour about 8 ounces of tomato juice into a plastic cup, and take it into the shower. Before washing, saturate the hair with tomato juice, and allow it to remain on the hair for several minutes. Thoroughly rinse out the juice, and wash and condition the hair as usual.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice works much in the same way as tomato juice. The citric acid in the juice works to remove hard metal stains and undesirable green coloring from the hair. Simply saturate the hair with lemon juice, and allow it to set for several minutes. Rinse out the lemon juice, and wash and condition as usual.
Baking Soda
Baking soda is a very versatile product that is used for a variety of cleaning and beauty purposes. Make a paste with baking soda and shampoo, and apply it to the hair. Allow the mixture to remain on the hair for several minutes, and thoroughly rinse it out. Shampoo and condition as usual.
Wet Your Hair Before Swimming
The hair is porous and naturally absorbs water, so before swimming in a pool, thoroughly saturate the hair with tap water or distilled bottled water. When you enter the pool, your hair won't absorb as much water since it is already thoroughly saturated. Although this isn't the complete answer, wetting the hair before entering the pool can help in the prevention of discoloration.
Commercial Hair Care Products for Swimmers
If your hair is extremely green, and home remedies won't remove the color, consider trying commercial hair care products for swimmers. You can find these types of hair care products online, at many discount retail stores, and at most beauty supply stores. Follow product label instructions for best results.
