Home Remedies for Sinusitis

If you have a sinus infection, have allergies or are sensative to things in the air, your sinuses may become inflamed. Your nasal passages become filled up with excess mucus. Pressure builds up and it can be painful. This is known as sinusitis. While drug stores sell different types of medications, you can become drowsy by taking it. Before you hit the pharmacy, check out some home remedies that can help relieve you of your sinus pain.

Steam is one of the oldest and most effective home remedy for sinusitis. Take a hot shower and breathe in the steam. You can also put a plug in you sink and fill it with hot water. Place a towel over your head and lean over so your nose is three inches from the water and breathe in. The steam helps loosen up your clogged nasal passages.

Make a sinus bath by mixing ¼ teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of warm water. Make sure that the water is not boiling. Just getting warm water from the tap will do. Fill an eye dropper, tilt your head back and put the solution into one nostril. Repeat with the other nostril. Then blow your nose to remove the mucus.

One of the reasons why you suffer from sinusitis is that the air is too dry in your house. By a dehumidifier and run it at night. This is very helpful in keeping the air moist. Do not let sinusitis rule your life. These home remedies are very effective in relieving your sinus pain. However, if it does not go away, see your doctor.
