Tooth pain can make life miserable. You can't eat or drink and occasionally tooth pain can cause other pain like headaches. If you are suffering from minor tooth pain or you can't get to the dentist right away, try one of these home remedies for tooth pain for a little relief.

Common Causes of Tooth Pain

Tooth pain is usually caused by infection or inflammation in the gum or tooth area, dental cavities, dental abscesses or gum disease.

Most Popular Tooth Pain Reliever

Clove oil and cloves are the most popular and widely used tooth pain home cures, containing a common dental analgesic and anti-infective called eugenol, which calms the pulp.

Add a few drops of clove oil to a cotton ball and apply to the gum in the area of the tooth pain. This will provide emergency relief from the pain. Pepper powder mixed with clove oil also alleviates tooth pain or you can just hold a clove in your mouth on the sore area.

A Stiff Drink to Relieve Tooth Pain

Another popular tooth pain home cure ingredient is whiskey. Swish a shot glass of whiskey in your mouth. Your gums will absorb the alcohol and numb the pain. Then you can either swallow the whiskey or spit it out. Vanilla extract has a similar effect if you just happen to be out of whiskey.

Homemade Tooth Pain Relief in Your Kitchen

Shave a piece of ginger root and place it on the sore area. Ginger root not only helps relieve the pain but will help with any infection that is present.

Boil in water a combination of 5 grams of peppermint and a pinch of salt and then drink the mixture. This homemade remedy works for toothache pain and other pains as well.

Garlic cloves or a piece of onion placed on the sore area is a simple home remedy for tooth pain found in your kitchen. Crush the garlic cloves or onion. The important factor in using garlic or onion to soothe tooth pain is getting the juice on the sore area.

A simple ice cube can provide relief from any tooth or mouth pain. Many people suggest pieces of cold vegetables like cucumber or potato but they probably both have the same effect as just using an ice cube to numb the area.

These home remedies are suggested for temporary relief of minor tooth pain. Many other conditions mimic the symptoms of tooth pain like heart disease and sinus and ear infection. If you experience bleeding or pus or the pain persists for more than a week be sure to see your dentist.
