Here are a few simple home remedies for a toothache.
Rinse and Spit
Rinsing and spitting seems like one of those home remedies for a toothache that would just be too easy to do much good. But it can work, especially if the cause of your pain is a particle of food trapped in your teeth, or sugar from a soda that you just drank.
In a pinch, like when you are away from home, any kind of lukewarm water will do. But, if you can, try rinsing with lukewarm salt water. Salt has healing properties that can help heal sore or swollen gums.
Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of water. Take some of the salt water into your mouth, gently swish it around a bit, and then spit. That might be all you need to make your toothache go away.
Brush Your Teeth
Brushing your teeth is another one of the simple home remedies for a toothache that you might not think about right away. The minute your toothache starts, try gently brushing your teeth. This might be all you need to get rid of the cause of your pain before it has a change to grow.
Try a Cold Cure
Considering how just a little cold air getting into your mouth when you have a toothache can leave you screaming with agony, this might seem like one of the least appealing home remedies for a toothache. But ice can actually numb some of the nerves in your mouth, making them less susceptible to pain.
Wrap an ice pack (or a plastic bag filled with ice) in a towel. Then press the ice pack against an area close to the aching tooth, whether against your cheek, your chin, or your outer lip. After about 15 minutes, you'll find that your pain has decreased. And, in some cases, it will have gone away entirely.
You don't always need heavy pain killers or a dental visit to take care of a toothache. Sometimes, these simple home remedies for a toothache are all you need to put an end to the ache.
