Home Remedy for Earaches

Olive Oil and Crushed Garlic Will Have Your Ear Feeling Better in No Time

Cold season is never a fun season. The congestion seems to build incredible pressure in your head, and when that pressure spreads out to full capacity, it is not uncommon to get an earache. If you are no stranger to an earache, you know how extremely painful one can be, and sometimes they occur when you are unable to immediately seek medical attention. So, what can you do until then? Garlic (Allium sativum) treatments can give you the desired relief from a painful earache, and buy you the time needed until your doctor can see you.

Garlic is not just for cooking anymore. It is actually one of the oldest plants to be used medicinally, because it contains medicinal qualities, and in the case of an earache, garlic is a good antiseptic and antibiotic. This medicinal home remedy can use either garlic juice or a boiled mixture of olive oil and crushed garlic cloves.

For this tip, let's stick with the mixture of olive oil and crushed garlic cloves. Heat about ΒΌ cup olive oil, and pour into a bowl. Then add 4-5 finely minced and crushed garlic cloves, mixing and mashing the garlic against the side of the bowl over and over. Making sure mixture is not scalding hot; you will use an eyedropper to suck up some of the warmed mixture. Add 3-4 drops into the ear canal and place a cotton ball in ear to soak up any overflow. While head is still tilted, you will begin to massage gently behind the earlobe, and down toward the throat. It is the combination of the warmth from the mixture, and the antiseptic/antibiotic properties of the garlic, that will assist in alleviating the pain. However, when you can make an appointment with your physician, please do so, because you do not know whether or not there is a severe infection that may require a stronger antibiotic. When in doubt, always consult your physician.
