When we are sick with the flu or bacterial infections that causes diarrhea we want relief fast. One of the homemade remedies we use in our household is homemade blueberry syrup. It helps relieve diarrhea fast while also giving our bodies the nutrients we might have lost during out bathroom runs.
The reason why we use blueberries to make syrup to treat diarrhea is that it contains potent antioxidant compounds in them that help fight of the bacteria that causes the runs in the first place. The main reason why diarrhea strikes in the first place is because of unwanted bacteria in our intestines due to the cold, flu, viral or bacterial infections and sometimes-even parasites. Blueberries also contain vitamins, minerals, pectin, and astringent, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-cancer and anti-bacterial properties in them that can help nourish the intestines back to health as well as ease any other discomfort such as upset stomach due to diarrhea.
Another ingredient we use when making our home remedy for treating diarrhea is honey. Honey contains B complex vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and many medicinal properties that help hydrate and energize the body again after being sick. Honey also is known for nourishing the lining of the intestines.
Now the way to make the homemade blueberry syrup for diarrhea is by placing 3 cups of organic fresh blueberries into a saucepan with ½ cup of freshly brewed organic chamomile tea. Chamomile tea also helps relieve diarrhea naturally due to the medicinal properties it contains. Then what you do is simmer the blueberries in the chamomile tea for 1 hour with a lid on the pan until a deep blueberry juice begins seeping from the blueberries. Once the blueberry juice is released into the chamomile tea, you will want to place a strainer over a medium sized bowl and strain the chunks of blueberries from the juice. Now add ½ cup of organic honey to the blueberry juice and thicken it up into a slightly thick blueberry syrup for diarrhea. Pour the homemade syrup into a mason jar and store in the refrigerator and use as needed. The syrup should stay fresh for up to 3 weeks because honey is a natural preservative.
To relieve the runs with the syrup all you do is take 2 to 3 tablespoons every half hour until your diarrhea subsides. Now do not use this home remedy if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in it. If you continue to have diarrhea after using this home remedy go to a doctor immediately because you might need medicinal treatment for a possible server infection you might have. Otherwise, I hope this remedy helps some of you out there from the runs as it has my family.
