Home school Kids like Florida Quarterback Tim Tebow Should Attend High school like Everyone Else
Playing Time is Earned During School Hours, Not Just Practice
Take one look at Tim Tebow, and it is obvious he is meant to compete. He is big, fast, has a cannon for an arm. But, as they say, he was taught in the kitchen. So far, 36 out of 50 states do not allow "those kids" to play for Public High Schools. I agree with all 36.
"Those names" are plenty and some have been successful. Guys like such as Jason Taylor of the Miami Dolphins and J.J. Redick of the Orlando Magic-just to name a few.
Parents in Alabama are seeking legislation that would allow those homeschooled to play the rest of us outsiders. They have dubbed this as the "Tim Tebow Bill." Nice, the American way; shamelessly promote an athlete to validate your opinion to the masses.
Homeschooling parents are delusional to cry foul. Kids taught at home have every built-in advantage. They get about an extra six hours a day to do whatever the parent pleases, if you consider the average school day is about 9 hours and a homeschooled kid is taught in 3. The remainder of they day can be spent to work on a certain craft, sport, and even a family job-then they can do that. Shoot, I wish I had the option of making money during school hours, but I didn't.
In my Junior and Senior years of High School I never missed a day. I rose at 7 a.m. and got home at 4 p.m. Basketball practice and lifting would keep me around much longer, most of the time. The reward for perfect attendance was an exemption from taking finals.
Getting picked on, teased, teasing others, laughing, presenting, talking, ignoring, observing; these are things most kids do every day. The rewards are extra-curricular activities. If one gets in trouble at school, then they are in trouble with the Coach.
Parents in Alabama can complain all they want, but if the kids want to play sports so bad, maybe they should go to Big Boys and Girls School (Public Schools) like everyone else. Endure the everyday hardships that comes with working with a team of many. When the kids come home, find out what they have learned and incorporate that into your parental lessons. Seriously, what are you afraid of? Is it what your kid may learn or rather what you may lean that is so scary?
Sure, use the masses in a "safe" forum such as sports, showcase the supreme talents that lead to center stage and maybe even get a bill named after you; it is still bullshit. There are many options for people to play organized sports that are not related to an institution that you have chosen not to attend.
Understand, while you had time to perfect your shot, watch t.v., or chew some gum, I dreamt of having time to perfect my shot, watch t.v, or chew some gum. Then I hung with my friends in the hallways and hit on girls who would be nothing more than friends. What do you do, watch Howard Stern? Perfect a skill locked away in your cave? Teach the bible? Teach Satanism?
That is fine, just don't look to join the rest of the team.

Much of this article is conjecture and contains little fact. One fact that the author has proven (indirectly) and made glaringinly obvious is how much time is wasted in a public high school verses a home school. The writer is admitting this fact and claiming that these kinds of "dues" should be paid if one wants to play public-school sports (which the home-schooled parents PAY FOR WITH THEIR TAXES). Sounds a bit like sour-grapes to me.
homeschooled children have been proven to have higher scores on standardized tests. so, obviously, the public school system is doing something wrong. and Mr Right, i was once homeschooled and an now in college. if i may say so myself i'd say i'm coping just fine with a 3.9 GPA and leadership positions in my sorority and on campus.
if you want to play school sports, go to school and quit thinking that the school education isnt good enough for you but their athletic program is. i agree 100% with the writter
well im pretty sure im not a freak and im going into the eighth grade and im going to be homeschooled and im not doing it because i have bad behavior or get "made fun of" or do not learn right(stupid) and i played on the varsity soccer as an 7th grader and im one of the best ones out there i know that sounds stuck up but two other girls and me make up our team!
First of all, I don't understand why everyone is attacking the writer of this article. "Your parents should be the target of your anger"...."I'm afraid my kids are going to turn out like you and that PS mold you come from". It's actually quite ironic because this is the exact type of behavior I've come to see from home-schooled kids and their parents; attacking, close-minded, and ignorant. As a person who graduated from a public school that "mold" we come from is what makes a person well-rounded, capable, and is a test of ones character. I am educated, successful and I feel as though I can handle any situation I find myself in which, with regarding the latter, in most cases can't be said for home schooled kids. And by "any situation" I mean how to interact socially with people who are rich or poor, with co-workers, or even with family members. Sometimes it's more important in life to learn when to shut the hell up than what the chemical symbol for antimony is. Public schools tea
As a former homeschooled child this message offends me. You did absolutely no background research and ignored most of the facts.
The reason I was homeschooled was because my mother felt I could receive a better education at home. Not to "protect" me from being picked on.
My parents were taxpayers and their kids should be allowed the same rights as any other person.
In fact, illegal aliens are given more rights when it comes to schools than homeschooled children are.
I don't think Tim is praying to Allah if you had done your homework, you would know that... Dont poke fun at people who are trying to spread the word of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. I commend his family for their commitment to CHRIST not ALLAH. It's not a lack of personality... it's that assurance that he is a believer and going to Christ's Kingdom one day. Do you not believe in anything... If you don't believe in Christ, I don't see how you can believe in yourself. Going to Africa to Spread the Word is an awesome testimony of faith and witness. I only pray that I am great witness. That is a terrible comment, Lloyds Apple... If you don't believe in Jesus Christ...Where is your peace and comfort... I bet if you look closely, you dont have it... Read your King James Bible, that is were true Personality comes from. And you have the right to reject it, its a choice, the Lord gives a choice, otherwise it wouldnt be in Love that he saves us. I really hope you don't reject it, b
Yeah I'm done being diplomatic about it. The majority of home schoolers I've known are extremely plain and are freaks in their own way. Sorry. Timmy is too busy saving lives in Africa, praying to Allah and whatever else helps him feel good about his lack of personality to worry about my grammar.
I find two points that need to be made in response to your article.
#1. If you're angry about the disadvantage of having no option other than public school, then your parents should be the target of your anger, not the children of parents who have sacrificed their time, money, and attention to offer the option of home schooling to their children.
#2. There are spelling and grammar errors in your article. Maybe Tim could help you with that.
