In the real estate business, you wouldn't think that there would be very many accidents, showing houses. It's rare, but every once in a while when a real estate professional isn't paying attention or in a hurry, safety takes a backseat.
I was searching the Internet for home safety tips, when I came across a video that showed a man walking into a sliding glass door. It got me thinking about something that most people often forget about or even overlook.
Glass doors that are sparkling clean look like they're open. I have mistaken clean glass doors myself, and know exactly what happened to this potential homebuyer as he walked into the glass door. He assumed that the real estate professional opened up the sliding glass door, but like most of us through trial and error, soon realized that he was mistaken.
I would like to make a few suggestions to real estate professionals who show property. It wouldn't be a bad idea to put a piece of tape on each sliding glass door and the other glass panels next to them. This might not look attractive, but could save you some frustration and embarrassment, just in case someone assumes that the glass doors are opened, when they really aren't.
Another thing that works well is to go around and open up all of the doors in the house while your prospective homebuyers are there. This eliminates a lot of frustration for the potential home buyers, especially if the doors are hard to open and close.
I don't know anybody who hasn't walked into a glass door, if you're one of the lucky ones great, but realistically, the last thing that you want to happen, is for one of your prospective homebuyers to walk through a solid glass door and get injured.
A little bit as safety goes a long way and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get some more information on home safety, especially if you're planning on staying in the home selling business.
