For this project, you will need (per apothecary jar):
- One clear glass apothecary jar with removable lid
- Mild dish detergent
- Water
- Paper towels
- Black and white damask print fabric
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Fabric marking pen
- Fabric scissors
- One inch wide bright green satin ribbon
- Krylon Spray Adhesive
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Newspaper and/or a large drop cloth
For easier cleanup when finished, cover the area you are crafting your apothecary jars with newspaper and/or a large drop cloth. Remove the lid from the glass jar. Wash both the jar and the lid using a mild dish detergent. Rinse both items well with water. Dry the lid and the jar with paper towels. Set the lid safely aside. Turn the jar upside down to continue drying for a couple hours.
Lay a piece of black and white damask print fabric flat on the work area. Use a ruler and a fabric marking pen to create a strip that is one inch wide and long enough to wrap around the apothecary jar horizontally. Carefully cut out this strip with a pair of fabric scissors.
Spray the back of the damask fabric strip with Krylon Spray Adhesive. Adhere the strip horizontally around the middle of the clear glass apothecary jar. Smooth the damask fabric with your fingertips to prevent any wrinkling. Let the adhesive set for about an hour to dry.
Cut two lengths of one inch wide bright green satin ribbon the same length as the damask fabric piece. Apply a dab of hot glue to one and adhere it horizontally around the jar, overlapping the damask piece by a quarter inch. Repeat this for the second ribbon and the bottom quarter inch of the damask piece. Let the glue cool completely before enjoying your new creation.
TIP: You can use other colored ribbon besides bright green. Consider scarlet red, bright pink, teal blue, and deep purple other excellent choices. (The more bold and bright the color of ribbon, the better it contrasts to the black and white damask fabric.) This project also makes for a great party decoration. Fill several matching apothecary jars with candies, cookies, or other similar treats.
