Glare Control
Glare is the enemy of a clear picture. If you want to have the best home theatre experience then you should try to situate the screen to minimize the amount of stray light that will hit the screen. This is easy to do when you have the luxury of designing a room from scratch, simply have a windowless room. However most people are trying to incorporate a home theatre into an already existing room. If this is the case, position the screen at an angle to the main window to stop window reflections. Of course blinds are an important part of eliminating lights , having vertical blinds will usually do the job but adding some pull out drapes will eliminate the problem all together.
Ambience
Consider a commercial movie theater. There is rarely a commercial theatre that doesn't have some type of ambient lighting. This is for safety reasons of course but watching a screen in a completely dark room will lead to eye strain at the high contrast lighting. Having ambient lighting is the polish on home theatre lighting that will take your home theatre room over the top.
Wall sconce lamps along the side of the home theatre room will provide an adequate amount of light to ease eye strain without ruining the picture. Wall sconce lamps come in many different styles and are available as fancy or simple as your home theatre room. You can find wall sconce lamps at Home Depot. It is even possible to buy the same lighting sconces used in commercial theatres from specialty shops if that suits your fancy.
Remote controlled lighting will make it easy to adjust the lighting at anytime. These systems come with a programmable remote control so you can have many different presets lighting scenarios programmed into the remote, available at a moments notice. There are many of these types of systems; however the Harmony H659 has proven to please the majority of its users.
Having a home movie theatre turns your house into a destination for your friends and family. Planning out your lighting will ensure that the experience is an enjoyable one.
