Home Trends: Futon Review

I bought a Home Trends metal and wooden frame futon in August of 2008. I paid less than $200 for the futon frame and mattress at my local Wal-Mart super center store. I primarily made this purchase because I wanted to turn a spare room into a TV room and I needed some type of furniture to complete the idea. The Home Trends metal and wooden frame futon was within my budget and I knew this would be the ideal piece of furniture for this room because it is functional and could be used as a spare bed in case of overnight guests.

First off buying the futon was a hassle. I felt like no one was working in the store to help me get this huge box to the cash register so I could pay for it. Getting someone to help me load the futon into my truck was an absolute nightmare. When an associate finally came to help me load the futon he was very disinterested in helping me. This made the process even more difficult.

As I got the large purchase home we began to assemble the futon. This was not at all easy. The instructions were hard to follow and we did not have all of the hardware needed. This resulted in a trip to the local hardware store to buy bolts and nuts. I am not exaggerating when I say it took over two complete days to assemble this frustrating piece of furniture. After so long we had to walk away from the project to pick it up a few hours later.

When it was finally assembled the futon looked great! I loved the sturdy appearance and the tan futon mattress, as well as the wooden arms of the futon. I did not love this: Our TV room was a flop, no one wanted to hang out and watch TV in this room. The futon was sat on maybe 5 times before it became a doggy bed basically. When I rearranged the furniture in the TV room and flipped the mattress around. I noticed the metal frame had already been bent and severely damaged from the weight of my dogs. This futon is intended to hold up to 600 pounds, but it was broken within a few months time from 100 pounds of dogs.

In a nutshell, I wasted $200 on the Home Trends metal and wooden frame futon that was damaged very quickly. I would not recommend this product to others. If you have to get a futon from Wal-Mart, I would recommend you buy the metal frame only because it is over $100 cheaper and will probably last for the same length of time as the more expensive model.
