HomeAgain Pet Recovery offers a revolutionary way to recover missing pets through the use of micro-chipping. A small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) is inserted just under the skin of your pet, between the shoulder blades. Your contact information is linked with your pet's unique chip and entered into a national database. Humane societies and shelters can then use a special scanner on your pet, and your contact information will be displayed. This is far more reliable than regular tags which can fall off, rust, or be scratched and dented to the point of illegibility.
If you discover your pet missing, you can call the HomeAgain Pet Recovery hotline to report it, and the agency instantly sends out an email to all relevant facilities within a 25-mile radius of the area your pet was lost in. The company has been performing this service for over a decade, but they have recently added some new services to their repertoire.
HomeAgain now offers 24-hour access to veterinarians that can assist you-or direct to you to someone that can assist you- in emergency cases, regardless of your location. They also keep your pet's medical records on file, and these can be accessed online and printed. This is very convenient for those who take their pets along while travelling, or those who use kennels frequently and need to have a way to quickly access medical history. The information is stored even if you change veterinarians. Another great feature is the ID card that is available-it's a plastic, wallet-sized card with your pet's picture, as well as emergency veterinarian and vaccination information.
HomeAgain Pet Recovery has reunited more than 363.667 pets with their owners to date. The cost of the program varies somewhat, as the initial chipping is done by a veterinarian. There is an additional charge of $17.50 added to the veterinarian's charge for chipping to be added to the HomeAgain database. Assist animals, such as seeing-eye dogs, can be added to the database free of charge. There are a few other pet recovery agencies available; however they do not offer nearly as many features as HomeAgain Pet Recovery, nor do they have as high of a success level. HomeAgain is a wonderful system, bringing pets and their parents together again and again. Post a CommentWe had our puppy chipped when we got her. Thankfully we haven't had to use it, but it puts my mind at ease. Our friend had a chipped pet get lost and was recovered because of it.
This really works because I have seen stories on the news where pets left behind on vacation have been reunited with their owners due to the chips.
