HOMELESS

HOMELESS

Cities of gleaming chrome and glass
rose high above the siren's scream,
as earth and sky were crushed beneath
the weight of obscene decadence.

The people reached for what they hoped
would this day bring them peace,
as beggars hobbled slow retreats
into the cardboard burning.

The blades and gears began to smoke
as celebrity posed on every screen,
the whales decayed upon the beach
as we wandered through the malls.

The yacht and mansion moguls clung
to their vaults and golden masks,
while jeweled evangelists sold the flock
and traded sin for cover.

As heroes huddled near Liberty's torch
these vultures taloned their remnant dreams,
then flew to islands beautifully tucked
above the empty reefs.

Nations gazed through opened eyes
when glaciers rushed to the sea,
Earth, once proud, was raped, then paved,
the one true diamond, lost to lust.

First young and old, then all, asleep,
as the kings and presidents dined,
beyond iron gates and shady lanes
were honor and conscience lost.

The rocket's red glare and writer's pen
and terrorist rant from secret caves
might win some battle, but never the war,
with primal, rabid greed.

Among the stars humanity blinked
as we chose colder space,
away from truth and light of dream,
our once blue orb, we cast.

You have recently left some kind words on a few of my entries, one which said we had some similarities. I agree. I like your work very much, and I do see some likeness. Good to meet you, keep on writing!

Very vivid and contrasting imagery here. You definintely have a very poetic way of expressing yourself. Great job.

I like this the best of your poems. The relationship between the title and the text is the key to experiencing it on a visceral level.

Saul relative: "Our reckless disregard for our home is unconscionably disgusting and ridiculously immature for a species that touts itself as the pinnacle of evolution..."...Your pen hit the mark with this comment, and I agree.
