Homemade Acne Treatments

Do They Really Work?

Matt Catania
Most people do not believe that homemade acne treatments are beneficial or will work at all, but speaking from personal experience I know that they do in fact work. If you look at some of the labels on the more popular medicines for acne you will notice that most of the ingredients inside of them contain substances or extracts found in the common vegetable and fruit, these of which, will be found in your kitchen (depending on your diet).

Studies done on acne show us that it occurs because of a lack of essential vitamins and minerals, for example, Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Pantothenic Acid. A lack of these substances can possibly lead to the birth and growth of bacteria that builds up the oil in your oil glands. You do not even notice the build up of oils and once the pressure becomes too much, the oil will start to slowly come out, thus causing a break out of acne. Most of the common treatments will try to resupply your body with the vitamins they need, this can be easily achieved if you just make one simple change... your diet. All it takes for this treatement to start working without taking pills is to include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet everyday.

Keeping your skin clean and clearing most of the oil from your face is another important part in treating your acne. Cleansing the skin with fruits such as lemons, is a proven acne treatment. The lemon is not just used for cleansing the skin, it can also be used for several other things. These things include the use of citric acid; citric acid has a few vital properties that are required to kill off any bacteria that might be harming a persons body. Just by rubbing a lemon on your skin before hopping into bed can help prevent acne, test it yourself, in the morning you will find that your skin has become noticeably clear. Also, a home remedy that I learned not long ago that helped to remove acne scars was to apply tomato on your face, do not mash the tomato, cut it in slices before applying. Another effective homemade acne treatment I was taught was to use garlic on the section of acne, it was proven to be effective. The last home remedy I was taught included using mint juice, it was apply just the same as the tomato slices and the garlic. The mint juice can remove scars, the visibility of acne and also skin lesions.

Some other homemade acne treatments also include: Using orange peels and extracting the paste substance from them. The paste acts as a disinfectant and kills bacteria leaving the skin clean. Oils such as tea tree oil and coconut oil, which are used daily can stop or reduce the effects of acne which include scaring. I recommend eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as keeping yourself hydrated with water.

The success and failure of homemade acne treatments all depend on the person. Each person is unique and this means that different treatments will work for different people, it is not to say that you should try one and give up. It is all about finding the treatment that works best for you, applying tomato slices on your face for a single day will not magically get rid of any or all acne you may have, some dedication on your behalf is needed to be successful. If home acne treatments do not work for you, then I suggest that you should try and move on to an alternative method such as a natural acne treatment which can be bought from shops.
