Homemade Baby Crib Sheets

First, let's talk about the different kinds of materials that can be used in making a baby crib sheet. Of course new baby fabric can be purchased and used. This would still be less expensive then buying them already made. Homemade crib sheets can be made with squares from used baby clothing, or baby blankets. Also recycling used sheets to make a baby sheet is a good idea. Just remove any warn or stained areas then cut the rest in large squares. Now the squares can be cut large enough to sew two squares together to make the baby sheet. The crib sheet actually can be made from a new flat sheet. Now lay a king size sheet on a flat surface, then measure it. Next compare the measurement of the larger sheet to the baby sheet to find the number of crib sheets that can be made from it. The larger size the sheet the more crib sheets can be made, therefore making it the least expensive.

Recycling used towels also work well by cutting the worn part or parts away. After there has been enough towels gathered that will meet the measurement of the baby sheet, then the sheet can be made by attaching the towels together. Actually baby sheets can be made out of almost any material. But of course it should be made from something that is soft and gentle enough for a baby.

Now, other items needed to make a crib sheet are; measuring type, scissors, thread, ½ inch elastic, and a sewing machine. The cloth will need to be measured out for the sheet. Now fold the material with good sides together then measure and mark using a pin, from the fold to corner at the head is 43 ½ inches. Then from the head down the side to the foot will be 63 ½ inches. Now cut the whole piece of cloth out. Next cut the elastic about 6 inches to fit the corners of the baby crib sheet. After cutting the size it takes for the sheet, then an A shape will need to be cut from the corner by folding the corner together. Now turn the material making sure that the good side is facing each other, then iron the folded A down. Then cut starting with three inches, coming into a point about 5 inches in. Next the A shape will be sewn together and the elastic added making it a fitted crib sheet. So cut four pieces of elastic measured 6 inches for those corners. Next place a fold over the elastic turning the raw edge of the cloth under it, then sew it down along the entire side keeping the edge turned under to make the hem. When getting close to the corner stop, then repeat the same pattern that was done at the first corner. Now, repeat each step until you have returned to the first corner or where it was started.

When these steps have been completed the crib sheet is finished. The homemade baby crib sheet is inexpensive to make. It can be used for your baby or as a nice gift for friends or to sale for extra money.
