Homemade Beauty: Hair Conditioners and Rinses

Laura Leiva
An old-fashioned homemade beauty treatment, mayonnaise is a perfect hair treatment for dry hair. Easy to make, you can use a mask once a week for soft hair and then follow later in the week with a homemade hair rinse to increase the shine. The ingredients in the hair rinse allow the proper pH levels to be restored, also removing any excess buildup from shampoo or styling products. They have also been known to increase the appearance of highlights, as well as add shine.

For the mayonnaise mask:

Wet the hair with warm water, and then add 1 cup of mayonnaise to the hair. Massage the mayonnaise into the scalp and throughout the hair, making sure to massage it into the dry ends of the hair. Cover the head with a shower cap or plastic bag for about ½ hour and then rinse with your normal shampoo.

For the hair rinse:

Combine the juice from ½ a lemon with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and then add them to 1 cup of water. Shampoo the hair as usual, and then rinse and add the hair rinse mixture. Massage into both the scalp and hair to make sure the mixture gets all over. After you are done, rinse the hair with cool water.

Trying homemade beauty treatments at home can save money, as well as offer the opportunity to use the most natural products on the body.

Good tips. For someone like me who is allergic to the fragrance that's in shampoos and conditioners, this is very helpful.
