Homemade Calvin Halloween Costume
Dress Up as Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes
For the Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes Halloween Costume craft, you need:
Hair gel (optional)
Short blonde wig (optional)
Yellow or tan construction paper (optional)
Cereal box cardboard or poster board (optional)
Scissors (optional)
Tape (optional)
Red striped shirt or red T-shirt
Black marker or
Black Duct tape or
Black cloth and glue/sewing kit (optional)
Black pants
Items marked optional may be needed depending on which method below you choose for making this Halloween costume.
Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes Halloween Costume, hair: Calvin is known for blonde messy hair always standing on end; the easiest way to replicate this is to use hair gel and spike your hair up. A short blonde wig can be worn and spiked with the hair gel also.
You can make a headband out of cardboard or poster board, similar to a burger king crown. Make "hair" spikes from the construction paper and fasten around the perimeter of the crown. Better yet, cut out several arching strips with spikes to "bridge" from one side of the headband over the head and connect to the other side.
Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes Halloween Costume, shirt: Look around for a red T-shirt with horizontal black stripes. Or wear a polo shirt, folding the collar inwards and under. Or use a long sleeve shirt, pushing the cuffs up and under so they resemble short sleeves.
Or make a striped shirt for the Halloween costume. Procure an old red T-shirt without designs that you no longer care for. Sources include the closet or a consignment shop. Using permanent marker, draw narrow, horizontal stripes across the shirt and sleeves. Stripes should only take up a third of the shirt. You can use thin black duct tape to make the stripes or cut up and glue/sew strips of black cloth to the shirt.
Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes Halloween costume, pants and sneakers: Wear a pair of black sweatpants; black jeans or dress pants will also do. Any pair of sneakers will work for this Halloween costume.
Your Calvin and Hobbes Halloween costume is complete. Now you can go trick or treating. Just watch out for those stuffed orange tigers behind your front door.
