Homemade Christmas Decorations for Kids to Make

Ms. Uknowhoo
Even as a kid, I have always loved Christmas. I loved putting up the lights, hanging up the decorations, and of course, decorating the Christmas tree. Though as an adult, I have a different perspective of what Christmas really means, I still enjoy falling into nostalgic memories by making home-made Christmas decorations I used to make as a kid. Here are just a few that your own kids can make:

Paper chains!
This was one of my favorite "decorations" to make. It's just so easy; you can do them all day. Even the younger kids can help. Simply buy construction paper-preferably traditional green and red and cut them into long thick scraps of paper. Make a hoop by gluing both sides to each other. To make the chain, insert one strip of paper into the other hoop and again, glue both sides together. Make a patter with the colors: red, green, red, green, and so on.

Collage
Any little kid can do this as long as they are careful with scissors. Just grab old magazines and look for any Christmas theme pictures. Cut the picture out and glue the backside to it to a sheet of blank paper. Sometimes it's interesting what they choose for their collage.

Snowflakes
All you need for this craft is white blank paper and some scissors. Make sure the paper is equal in length in all sides. Fold it to the opposite corner three times for a total of eight triangles when unfolded. Make sure to keep track of the center. When the paper is folded down to a small triangle, start cutting patterns on it. Circles, triangles, or anything random (After all, snowflakes are random). Unfold when finished and hang it up with some string.

Special snowflakes
These snowflakes are a little fancier than the regular paper snowflakes. You will need a carving tool and thick white paper (such as paperboard). Crayons, makers, and glitter are also required to decorate the snowflake. What you first want to do is make a simple outline of the snowflake. Just the outline and nothing in between. How big you want to make it is your choice, but make it large enough for the kids to draw on it, write "Merry Christmas, love____" , or be able to draw something. Cut the snowflakes out and let the kids do the rest!

Marshmallow man
This craft is pure edible goodness! What you will need are large marshmallows, frosting, gum drops, licorice, and practically every candy you like. To make your marshmallow man, take two marshmallows and glue them together using the frosting. Toothpicks can also be inserted to hold the marshmallows together but not advised if working with younger kids. Then decorate your marshmallow man with candy. Keep using the frosting for glue for the candy. Add as little or as much as you want.

These decoration/crafts are cute, inexpensive, and a good way to entertain the kids during Christmas time
