Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas

If you are like me and just can't stand the though of shopping at Wal-Mart in December, you might take into consideration giving homemade gifts this year. Now, I just lost some of you who just don't have the time for that sort of thing. Well, creating handmade items doesn't have to be a time consuming experience. In fact, if you aren't remotely artistic in nature, you might consider shopping at Etsy.com this year. You can put another individual's hard work to your benefit.

Here are just some ideas for Christmas gifts this year.

-Scrapbooks. Everyone knows someone with a family. Why not get a custom made scrapbook album for them? No longer are scrapbooks a hodge podge of old newspaper clippings scotch taped into a book. You can get scrapbook albums of all shapes and sizes. They come in a variety of themes and can be as simple or complicated as you would like.

-Home Décor. There are so many options for customizing home décor. If you know someone who scrapbooks, you can have them create a family tree and then insert it into a floating frame. You can affix rub-ons to candle holders. Create family collages and frame it. Purchase blank office décor and then decorate it to match a certain theme.

-Food. If you like to bake, create cookies, candies, and various kinds of sugary pieces of heaven. Wrap them up in a creative box or bag and hand them out. You can also purchase some icing bags at craft stores (or Wal-Mart if you are truly brave) and then layer them with hot cocoa, chocolate candy such as M&Ms and top off with marshmallows. The result is a colorful cone of sugary goodness that is sure to delight everyone.

-Fabric. With a sewing machine, time and patience, you can create clothing, purses, and even quilts for those loved ones. If you are a knitter or can crochet, then creating blankets, sweaters, socks, and scarves can be a creative way to gift this year.

-Jewelry. Do you know someone who is really stylish? Create some custom made jewelry that they are sure to love.

Some other ideas this Christmas would be to create your own Christmas cards. You can go to website such as Shutterfly and upload a family photo. You can then create your own Christmas cards. If you want to haul out the scissors and cardstock, you can create your own Christmas cards from scratch.

Buy some Christmas oriented stamps and create miniature tags to affix to the presents. Go wild with the gift wrapping. Decorate bags and boxes to give that present just a little added oomph. Giving gift cards this year? Purchase a metal tin, decorate it and put the gift card inside.

There are many ways to give homemade gifts. If you don't have the time to make something, why not put that money into someone else's hands (instead of a huge corporation). Then have them do the work for you.
