Marble Photo Magnets
These cute, little magnets are great for decorating the garage or office with little reminders of home. You will need clear flat backed marbles (available in craft stores, usually in the floral department), photographs or magazine pictures, clear drying glue and round magnets.
Use the marble to find the right place to cut the picture. Trace around the edge of the marble as it sits on top of the picture and then cut it out. Apply glue to the flat side of the marble and then press it into the picture. Be sure to get any air bubbles out. It will look milky white, but as long as the glue is clear drying then the picture will be visible after the glue dries. When it is dry, glue a magnet to the back of the picture.
Apron
If Dad loves to cook out, then a decorative apron may be the perfect gift for him. You will need a plain apron (usually available in a cooking or craft store) and fabric paint or iron-on decorations like patches or transfers.
Make sure you wash the apron before applying any decorations. If you are choosing to paint the apron, let your children paint on words or their handprints. One idea is for each child to put their handprint on the apron and when dry you can write in their names in permanent marker.
Older children will be able to handle an iron. They can select a patch or transfer that celebrates something special for Dad, like a favorite band or sports team. Ebay is a good place to check for individual patches. Office supply stores also carry printer paper that can be used as an iron-on transfer. Simply follow the package directions.
Picture Frame
Start a conversation with the child(ren) about their Dad. Ask about special activities, favorite memories and their favorite things about their Dad. Write down the responses and use those words to make a very special gift for Dad.
Pick out a special picture of Dad with his child(ren). Have this picture blown up to 5x7. Then pick out an 8x10 frame and with a mat to make the picture opening 5x7. Let the children decorate the mat with words that remind them of their Dad. Younger children may need you to write out the words while they add color and flair.
Handprint Tie
Reclaim a thrift store tie from the trash and make an easy gift for Dad at the same time. You will need a plain colored tie and fabric paint.
Simply dip the child's hand into paint and lay flat on the tie to make an imprint. Allow to dry. If you have more than one child contributing to the tie, then add their name to their handprint with permanent marker. This tie is perfect for casual day.
Whatever you choose to make with your children for Dad is sure to be treasured.
