I'm lazy and I hate to cook, which means I don't keep the essentials in the house for cooking that most people do, and cooking oil spray is among those items. I also don't keep stuff like tin foil and plastic wrap around either, but hey, usually I get along just fine without them. But when it comes to baking and not wanting my baked goods to stick to the pan, cooking oil spray would be nice, so I figured out a way to make my own. Nope, I'm not a genius, I'm just lazy again- I hate washing those damned pans with stuck-on food!
To make your own cooking spray, all you need is an empty squirt bottle (the kind with a pump) and whatever oil you like to cook with. We use olive oil, as vegetable oil to me is a waste and doesn't make food taste as good. Fill the washed spray bottle (rinse it in hot water until you can no longer smell plastic or else your oil will have a plastic taste) with the cooking oil of your choice, and use it to spray your pans and cooking surfaces on when you need to grease something before cooking. I love it!
Not only is this homemade cooking oil spray great for greasing up pans and casserole dishes for baking, but it's great for applying oil to homemade french fries, when cooking chicken or vegetables, or when adding oil to water for cooking pasta. Since it's a spray, you think you're getting more oil on the food than you really are, and is a great way to coat items that need oil without making them swim in it. This is what I use my cooking spray for the most, because, me, a baker? Ha!

Post a CommentSometimes when I run out I use a cotton ball to spread the oil thin on the pan. Anything to save a few fatty calories!
What a good idea...never thought about that one before thanx :)
Good common-sense tip: But, if this sense was really common, we would have thought of this before reading!
Great, thanks.
They also make glass sprayers specifically for oil, but they are expensive. I might try this sometime.
very good article
I will definitely be trying your "lazy" method.
