Making a homemade cowgirl costume is a great way to create a unique and inexpensive costume for Halloween. You can make a cowgirl costume for girls using clothing from the thrift store and from your daughter's closet and accessories from the costume store and your jewelry box. Here are some fun and popular cowgirl costume ideas for young girls, tweens and teens.

Cute Pink Cowgirl Halloween Costume for Girls

Find a pink western-style cowgirl shirt and pair of pants or miniskirt. For added effect, sew some pink rayon or polyester fringe trim onto the shirt and the hem of the skirt. If you like, you could also get a pair of blue jeans and place a pair of pink chaps over the top. Get a pink cowgirl hat and a holster with a prop gun. Tie a pink bandanna around her neck. Style her hair in pigtail braids and tie pink ribbons at the ends. White or pink cowgirl boots will give this cowgirl costume the best look, but white or pink shoes will do.

Shoot 'Em Up Chaps Cowgirl Halloween Costume for Girls

To make a shoot 'em up chaps cowgirl Halloween costume, get a western-style button-down shirt, a pair of brown or cow-print suede fabric chaps and a matching vest. Sew or hot glue some brown suede fabric fringe trim to the vest and chaps, if you like. Then get a costume gun holster that can hold two guns or make a holster yourself out of cardboard. Insert two toy guns the holster. Get a brown cowgirl hat, brown cowgirl boots or shoes and a bandanna in any color you like.

Jessie Cowgirl Halloween Costume for Girls

Jessie from Toy Story makes a great cowgirl Halloween costume for young girls. Get a white western-style button-down shirt and attach a panel of yellow fabric to the chest area and cuffs. Find or make a pair of black and white cow print chaps, find some brown shoes or boots and a thick brown belt. Make an ovular belt buckle from yellow craft foam and draw a picture of a cow on the front. Get a red Jessie Toy Story hat or find an old wide brimmed red hat and trim it with white stitching and a white band. Dress your child in blue jeans before putting on the chaps and boots.
