One use for the empty rolls is to place your tv, computer and other cords inside them to contain them behind your tv and computer desk. It is a cheap and easy way to get all of your jumble of cords out of sight.
A cute and fun use for empty paper towel rolls is to make them into a telescope. You will also need an empty toilet tissue roll for this. See my other article on homemade craft ideas for empty toilet paper rolls for more ideas. Back to the telescope idea, you can spray paint the paper towel tube a gold or silver and then spray paint the toilet paper roll and slide the toilet paper roll over the paper towel tube. The toilet paper roll will slide up and down and turn just like a telescope. This would be a great craft idea for a pirates party.
A fun craft for the kids is to make napkin rings. Now this will be nothing fancy of course but still fun. You will need to cut about 1 to 2 inch rings from the tube and then if you want you can spray paint them or let the kids paint them using kid friendly paint. They can also decorate them using stickers. They can give them to their Grandparents as a nice gift.
One use I have seen used quite a lot is using empty paper towel rolls as candy holders. Mainly at football games. You can cut the tube in half, fill with candy and then wrap in tissue paper and tie with a curly ribbon. Makes a great party favor too!
To make binoculars for the kids take 1 tube and cut in half. Super glue the two halves together and then have the kids paint and decorate like they want. You can use plastic wrap at the ends as glass. If you don't want to mess with the glue a rubber band should work fine in keeping them together.
You can also make noise makers out of paper towel tubes. You can leave them as one piece or cut them into two pieces. Fill them with pebbles, marbles or whatever you wish. Wrap some construction paper around the ends and hold them with a rubber band. Great noise makers for games and parties.
A fun game for parties could be to cut the paper towel roll in half and make a bowling set. You can have the kids paint or color them and use a small ball as the bowling ball. Fun and simple and some thing the kids will enjoy.
Hope you have found these homemade craft ideas for empty paper towel rolls handy. Now you can think twice before throwing that empty roll away!
