Homemade Dog Treat Recipes Are Better for Your Dog

When considering dog treats you might what to consider your own homemade dog treat recipes. This article is actually a warning for all you dog owners out there that may have thought about giving your dog certain types of treats or that may even be unknowingly giving your dog harmful treats right now.

Dog owners absolutely love their dogs and in most cases think of their dog as part of the family and treat them as such. Just as you would do with children, dog owners like to reward their dogs for good behavior and other activities and that usually take form as some kind of treat.

However, there are some treats that are given to dogs that can cause serious harm or even kill them. Even treats that clam to be made dogs may not be good for them.

One reason to consider your own homemade dog treat recipes is because some of the foods we eat, as humans can be harmful to dogs. Foods made for us contain more fat than dogs can handle and can give them diarrhea. Dogs also need more vitamins and minerals than the food we eat contain. It's nice and kind of cute to give your dog table scrapes, but it can also be dangerous.

Fruits and nuts are good for us, but pineapples, grapes and raisins can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and possible kidney failure when fed to your dog. Macadamia nuts can cause weakness, swollen limbs, tremors, and damage your dog's digestive system, nervous system, and muscle system.

Dogs are lactose intolerant so they should not be given milk or dairy products. Holiday foods like ham and turkey can cause diarrhea and vomiting when fed to your dog.

Anything we love to eat we also love to give our dogs and we humans love chocolate. However, chocolate and anything with caffeine can cause seizures, coma and even death.

Another reason you might what to think about making your own homemade dog treat recipes is that commercial dog treat labels can be misleading. You may not know exactly what is in those treats. Also many commercial dog treats are filled with unnecessary fat and calories plus preservatives and artificial coloring.

When you make your own dog treats, you exactly what you are putting in them. You are giving your dog treats that are freshly made and have no need for preservatives. You know that your dog is getting something that he will enjoy and that is good for him. Isn't that the best reason to make your own homemade recipes?
