Homemade Fairy Costumes - The Fairy Skirt
Purchase tulle fabric in various colors to make the skirts for your little fairy. Tulle can often be purchased on rolls in the wedding section of craft stores, or you can buy it by the yard in fabric stores. Cut the tulle in half by width depending on the height of the girl you are making the costume for. Then, simply thread a string or ribbon in and out of the top of several pieces of tulle fabric and draw it together to make a fairy skirt. You can also use elastic for a more permanent solution. Glue on ribbon roses or small bows for a fancier look.
Homemade Fairy Costumes - The Wings
Bend two wire coat hangers into fairy wing shapes and pull colored girl's stockings over them. Cut off the excess body area of the hose and wrap a long length of ribbon around the center part in a figure eight shape so there are two loops. These loops are to slip over the costume wearer's shoulders to hold the wings on. Cover the ribbon loop and gathered stocking ends with a bow of narrow tulle fabric or other embellishment. If desired, you can also use fabric paints or glitter glue to paint designs on the homemade fairy costume's wings.
Homemade Fairy Costumes - The Magic Wand
What is a fairy without a magic wand to grant wishes with? Paint a dowel a solid color such as pink or lavender and glue on embellishments. A silk flower, plastic ornament, or a large bow can be glued to the tip of the dowel. Tie pretty ribbons or lace below this ornament and let the ends trail free.
Homemade Fairy Costumes - Accessories
Other accessories can be included in the homemade fairy costumes you make. Your daughter might like a special headband with glued on flowers, ribbons, or sparkly sequins. Pieces of tulle or wide ribbon with glued on silk flowers can be tied around her wrists and ankles. Peruse pictures of fairies in books and the internet for more ideas to make the homemade fairy costumes you create truly magical.

Post a CommentMy little girl would definitely love one!
Sound like it's lots of fun. And, it's very creative. I wish I had a little girl to do this with. Thank you.
Hmmmm Maybe I'll make two of these in a large size for the next time I visit my sister in Florida. She loves garage saling on Saturdays and I won't go unless she wears what I ask. Last time we had matching kitty shirts on and then I bought real feathered angel wings and sombreros to wear. We had the best time and got to look at all the items without anyone coming near us.
