Kids can easily make this tie shaped doormat to decorate the house for Father's Day this year. Kids can work on this craft project as a group or one child can easily make this. I recommend this project for children ages 7 to 15.
This craft project is easy and should cost you about $20 or less depending on the number of doormats you need to make the Father's day craft.
Now, to make a hand painted Father's Day Tie doormat you will need:
1 Door Mat (I recommend those brown natural fiber doormats)
Sturdy scissors, small hand saw, or exacto knife
Painter' Tape
Acrylic or Exterior House paint
Round Stencil paint brush
2" and 3" Paint brushes

Now, the first step is to cut out your front door mat to look like a Father's Day Tie. Flip the door mat over face down. Now, trace out your tie shape on the back using a marker, paint pen, or even chalk.
Tip: Try drawing this tie out to fill the entire door mat. By this I mean make the Father's Day Tie as wide as the door mat and as long. Only cut away portions to create a cartoon like tie!
Use an exacto knife to cut out the Father's Day Tie shape. You may need to work at the door mat from both sides.
Now, flip the tie doormat over. You are about to start painting, so you may want to use one of Dad's ties for inspiration. The kids can paint on any design they want though.
Dip your three-inched paintbrush in some paint. I recommend only dipping in the paint lightly, then dabbing off some of the paint on some scrap paper. This will keep too much paint from leaking across the door mat.
Now, let this paint dry on your Father's Day Tie door mat.
Once this is dry use your paints to add smaller details, like the words "Welcome," or "Happy Father's Day." You can use smaller brushes for this or even stamps if you are not using a super textured doormat.
Tip: If you want to make a really large door mat try either buying an oversized pre made door mat or a few smaller doormats. You can use some carpet tape to adhere four small door mats together on the bottom and create one really large Father's Day tie doormat!
You can buy this carpet tape at any home improvement store. I think it would be really cool to make one long Father's day tie that reaches from your front steps, across the front porch to the front door. Sort of like a red carpet for Dad.
