My entire family loves french fries but I make them from real potatoes instead of buying frozen fries. Here is a simple recipe to share with yours.
Since I "eyeball" everything and do not use measurements here are the estimations.
You'll need:
High lipped frying pan, pot or fry daddy
Potatoes- two fist size potatoes per person
Oil- your preference
Salt or sea salt
Other seasonings optional
Large serving dish
Slotted spoon or long handled strainer
Paper towels, napkins or white computer paper (if you're in a quick pinch)
Sharp Knife
How to cook
Slice all the potatoes lengthwise into strips. If you plan to do a lot of potatoes place them into cool water to keep them from browning.
I prefer a high-lipped pan for my potatoes. Place the pan on the appropriate eye with a temperature setting of Med-High. Each stove is different so this may need adjusting. Add 1.5-2 inches of oil into the pan and it should only take a few minutes to heat.
Put a sliver into the oil to test the temperature. If it begins to bubble its time to fry. Layer the potatoes in the oil. The fry time will be between 25-35minutes depending on the amount of fries and stove.
While the fries are cooking layer your serving dish with the paper of choice. When the fries are brown scoop them out and put them into the dish. Add the salt immediately after they come out of the fryer.
TIPS
Take out half the batch of fries and add salt. Then coat the top layer.
Pay close attention to the fries once they begin to brown. If you're not careful they'll burn.
Do not start flipping them right away. Let them fry for a bit or the potatoes will break apart.
Do not overload the pan with potatoes or they will cook unevenly and when you try to move them around in the pan they will break apart.
