Homemade gifts are fun and can save you a lot of money whether it's a birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day, or another holiday such as Christmas. There are easy ways to save money on gift giving and making the gifts you give can go a long way in your efforts. No matter what the occasion there will be someone that you have in mind when you are picking out the gifts that you are going to give.

No matter how few or how many people on the list you can manage to get everyone on your list something if you're careful with your choices. Knowing what you enjoy doing will help to give you an idea of what to make. When you know what your family and friends like you can give them all something that you made and they'll enjoy. The same principle applies when you make gifts to give those dearest to you.

Homemade Books and Calenders

You can give coupon books with certificates for babysitting, yard cleaning or taking out the trash to the people on your list. These work best for the smallest gift givers since a child's allowance will usually be just enough to cover some supplies such as construction paper, crayons and glue. The kids can tie the books with string so that each coupon is easy to redeem.

Calenders are rather simple to make too. You can make a yearly, daily, or weekly calender with a printer and some photo paper. Find a template and add a picture to the top, you're all set. When you print out a calender to give those on your list you can fill in all of the days you think they will want to remember so they won't forget. You can make a paper wall calender with the little paper shapes with the dates on them for parents that home school so they can make the classroom portion of the home look like a classroom for their kids.

Candles are always nice.

While you might be able to find candles on clearance rather inexpensively you can make them for less. If you want you can purchase a bunch of little (or large) candles on clearance and melt them into one. Whether you use a kit or scraps from old candles you can personalize them. Even when you use scraps to make the candles you can melt them down to make whatever color combinations that you want. The most expensive part of the candle is the wicks. You can purchase a few packs of wicks that make a couple dozen candles rather inexpensively.

If you enjoy candle making you might also want to consider soap making so that you can give decorative personalized soaps to someone on your list that likes to use them to decorate their home.

Personalized Stationary

A computer with a printer and some paper whether it's photo paper, plain white or card stock are the only things that you need. Simply pick a design that you like and customize it to the person that you wish to give it to. Type in the name, address, etc and hit print. Then all you have to do is copies (it's easy if you have a printer with a built in copier. There are thousands of designs available for free all over the Internet. Just pick one and then all you have to do is put the name or initials of the person you want to give it to anywhere you'd like on the paper. Decorating a few envelopes to match will help to make a complete set.

Food

You can bake a cake, cookies or virtually any type of bread and give it as a gift. This works fairly well at Christmas. Put them in clear wrap and tie a bow on them. Just don't bake them too long before you give them. Jams or jellies can be canned and tied with a bow to give at Christmas. These can be made a few weeks in advance if there is a need for them to be.

Scrapbooks

If you are in the habit of scrap booking already chances are that you'll have most of what you need already. Take some of your favorite pictures and organize them into small scrapbooks so that the people on your list can enjoy the memories for years to come.

There are a million ideas for inexpensive homemade gifts that don't take much time. They just take thought. When you're trying to make the budget stretch they can do you a world of good. Use your imagine and skill to have a colorful Christmas on even the tightest budget.

It doesn't matter what time of year it is, you don't even need a reason to give gifts. You can make someone something anything you want to show them that you love them.
