It can be difficult to find that perfect gift for extended family members. Often times we may wind up buying a gift that winds up never being used or even regifted to someone else. Making homemade gifts with the kids is a perfect solution. You will make unique gifts that the recipient will truly enjoy. Who doesn't love gifts that are homemade by the kids? It is also a great way to teach kids that giving a gift can be just as fun as receiving one. Here are some ideas for gifts that can be homemade with the kids and given to family members.

Home made picture magnets of the kids. A cute homemade frame can be made from popsicle sticks. Overlap the sticks to form a square or rectangle box that will outline the picture. You may need to cut down the popsicle sticks depending on the size of the picture you will use. Glue the sticks together in the corners where they overlap. Painting the frame in Christmas colors will make a festive and adorable gift.

What pics can be used? You can use school pictures if you'd prefer. You could also take pics with a digital camera and print them out on your printer. If you don't have a digital camera or if your printer just doesn't print very good quality pics, you can get a disposable camera from WalMart for about $3 - $4 and have the pictures developed. Get double prints so you can keep some for yourself.

After the frame has dried completely, glue the picture and the magnets to the frame. You now have a cute homemade framed picture that will add a little life to any refrigerator. They can also be placed on a metal filing cabinet at home or at work. The relatives will have a picture of the kids and the kids will enjoy seeing their picture on display whenever they go for a visit.

Homemade Picture Ornaments. Christmas tree ornaments are something we accumulate over time. Each year we add to our collection of ornaments. Through the years we end up with ornaments that are special to us and unique to our family. Homemade ornaments are great gift to add to anyone's collection. You can purchase simple ornaments and add a picture to them or make your own ornament. Popsicle sticks can be used to make an ornament and are ideal for gluing a pic to them. Just make sure you make some ornaments for your tree as well. They will likely be your most cherished ornaments for years to come.

Homemade Christmas Cards. Why buy Christmas cards when homemade cards are more personal and can be even more beautiful? A computer can be used or make them by hand. If your kids are old enough, have them write a Christmas poem. If they're not old enough maybe they could draw a Christmas picture. Use everybody's imaginations. On the front, a picture of a Christmas tree drawn by your child and some glitter added to make it really stand out. In the middle, a Christmas poem and a family picture. The possibilities are endless. Glue some ribbon to the card to outline the pic your child drew. You can create some really unique and beautiful cards that will likely be kept rather than thrown away or recycled.

The Christmas Basket. Homemade gift baskets are great for any occasion and Christmas is no exception. Baskets can be a little expensive but good quality baskets can usually be found at a thrift store for a reasonable price. You can save a little money and no one has to know. Adding a little red or green ribbon can make the basket look more festive. What do you put in the basket? Your homemade gifts of course. Ornaments, picture magnets, pictures drawn by the kids, and your Christmas card. Adding some cookies or homemade candy will put a smile on anyone's face.
