Many People Don't like Homemade Gifts

Crafty People

Many people don't like homemade gifts, a television commercial by a national premium network supports this stigma; what many people don't consider is the time, dedication, and attention to detail handmade gifts really take. People who take the time to make hand made gifts are caring generous, creative people which want to share their talents.

It's Cheaper to Make a Gift by Hand

It is a popular misconception that it is less expensive to buy the materials and hand craft an item; consider for example a knit baby blanket. A knit baby blanket will consist on average of 4 skeins of yarn at $3-$4 dollars each, plus the cost of the knitting needles, $4+, and any embellishments $3 minimum; all of these together add up to at least $21, if anything a high end (that will still be of less quality) knit blanket at a major retailer will likely cost less.

Additionally, the time spent on a hand crafted gift is significantly more than simply going to a store and selecting which colors and materials one finds most appealing; a hand crafted gift is considered for materials and colors as well, then is crafted into a one of a kind item. Even a fast knitter can take a weekend to knit a baby blanket, working 8 or more hours a day, when is the last time shopping for one item took that much time?

Dedication

Completing a knit, crochet, sewn, or other types of hand made projects are not as easy to make as they may look, and a project that started out as fun can become somewhat of a chore. For this reason a person must really be dedicated to the end result to finish a project furthermore this person is giving up their free time that could be spent on various other things to craft a one of a kind quality item for the recipient.

Attention to Details

Many crafters spend most of their time on the decorative extra's that make their projects special, such as a touch of ribbon here, or an intricate border there, all for the hope that the recipient will enjoy the item and for the pride that comes in turning raw materials into something useful. It can be incredible to make a bundle of yarn into an actual useful item such as a blanket; people who have never experienced this may have trouble understanding this feeling.
Hand Crafted Gifts

Anyone that receives a hand crafted gift should appreciate the fact that they were considered for such a personal item; the time and effort which was required to make the gift possible should make it a treasure. Crafting is a hobby that is rewarding and should be respected and appreciated by the beneficiaries of their work. Handmade gifts are not cheap!
