Homemade Hair Care: Natural Shampoo Recipes

Chamomile Shampoo

4 bags Chamomile tea OR 1 handful fresh Chamomile flowers
4 tablespoons pure soap flakes
1 1/2 tablespoons glycerin
1 1/2 cups boiled water

Soak the tea bags/flowers for 10 minutes in 1 1/2 cups of boiled water. Remove the tea bags & add the soap flakes. Let stand until the soap has softened. Add the glycerin & stir until the mixture is well blended. Pour into a bottle.
Store in a cool, dark place.

Soapwart Shampoo

2 cups distilled water
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped, dried soapwart root
2 teaspoons Lemon Verbena OR Catnip

Boil the water. Add the soapwart and simmer, cover for about 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and add the herb. Let the mixture cool. Strain the mixture, keeping the liquid, into a bottle.
Must be used in 8-10 days.
Store in a cool, dark place.

Basic Shampoo

1/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
1/2 teaspoon light vegetable oil

Mix all ingredient together and pour into a bottle.
Shake before use

Stimulating Shampoo

1/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
2 teaspoons light vegetable oil
1/8 teaspoon peppermint oil
1/8 teaspoon teatree oil

Excluding the water, mix all ingredients. Once mixed add the water and pour into a bottle.

Hydrating Shampoo (for dry hair)

1/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
1 teaspoon glycerin
1/4 teaspoon light vegetable oil

Mix all ingredients and pour into a bottle.
Shake well before use.
Allow to sit on the hair for several minutes before rinsing.

Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

1/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
1/2 teaspoon light vegetable oil
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons apple juice
6 fine-ground cloves

Mix all ingredients in a small blender, on low for about 30 seconds. Pour into a bottle.
Wet the hair will warm water before applying.
Keep refrigerated.
Use within 3 days.

Full Shine

1/4 cup distilled water
1/4 cup liquid Castile soap
2 tablespoons dried rosemary
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
1/4 teaspoon lemon oil OR fragrance oil

Boil the water. Add the rosemary and let stand until fragrant. Strain the mixture, keeping the liquid, and let cool. Mix in all other ingredients. Pour into a bottle.

Simple Dry Shampoo

1/2 cup Cornstarch

Sprinkle in your hair and allow to absorb for a few minutes. Brush it out.

Another Dry Shampoo

1/4 cup oatmeal
1 teaspoon crushed fragrant herb (such as lavender)
1 teaspoon baking soda

Grind all ingredients together.
Sprinkle enough on your hair to cover it all and massage for 5 minutes. Brush it out.
Store in a cool, dry place.
Can be made in bulk.
