Homemade Hair Dyes & Rinses

These dyes and rinses will all need to be repeated daily for several weeks. Results will intensify over time. It may seem like a lot of effort but since all ingredients are natural it will be much more healthy for your hair and the results should be well worth it. The blonde rinse may dry out your hair due to the acid from the lemon and the harmful rays from the sun so make sure you condition well and often if using this method. The same can be said for the red intensifier since you will be out in the sun daily so condition well.

Blonde Dye
This rinse will add blonde highlights to hair. Results intensify over time.

1 cup lemon juice
3 cups chamomile tea

Mix ingredients together.
Pour over damp hair, covering it all.
Sit in the sun for an hour.
Rinse and condition well.
Must be used daily for several weeks before changes are noticed.

Brunette Dye
This rinse will darken and intensify the shade of brown. Results will intensify over time.

black tea OR black coffee

Pour through hair 15 times, re-rinsing with the same mixture.
On the final time wring hair and leave for 15 minutes.
Rinse with clear water.
Must be used daily for several weeks before changes are noticed.

Red Dye
Results will intensify over time.

strong rosehip or clove tea OR strong black coffee

Pour through hair 15 times, re-rinsing with the same mixture.
On the final time wring hair and leave for 15 minutes.
Rinse with clear water.
Must be used daily for several weeks before changes are noticed.

Red Enhancer
This rinse will intensify the shade of red. Results will intensity more over time.

1/2 cup beet juice
1/2 cup carrot juice

Mix ingredients together.
Pour over damp hair.
Sit in the sun for an hour.
Rinse well.
Must be used daily for several weeks before changes are noticed.

Covering Grey
Result will intensify over time.

1/2 cup dried sage
2 cups water

Simmer ingredients for 30 minutes. Allow to stand for several hours.
Apply to hair and leave on until dry.
Rinse well.
Repeat weekly until the desired shade is achieved.
Repeat monthly to maintain the shade.

Restore Curl
Works best for perm-curled hair.

3 tablespoons deep conditioner
3 tablespoons Epson salt

Mix the ingredients and microwave for 20 seconds.
Work the mixture through your hair while still warm and leave for 20 minutes.
Rinse with warm water.
