Homemade Hair Mask

Abby Willow

A homemade hair mask is all you need to keep your hair healthy and happy in the harsh cold winter months. In winter, the hot, dry heat in your house combined with the cold, bitter, biting air outside is sure to leave your hair dry, brittle, and screaming for care. A homemade hair mask nourishes your hair and leaves it feeling silky smooth all winter long- learn how easy a homemade hair mask is to make!

Skip the mayo (which is difficult to wash out and stinky) and go for the olive oil instead. Take a tablespoon of olive oil and mix it with a small dollop of your regular hair conditioner and lather it up in your hands. Work through your hair from the ends to the roots until your entire head is saturated. Place a plastic bag over your hair to create a natural heat to allow your hair shaft to open, and let your hair soak in all that healthy oil. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse your hair in cool water. If the olive oil doesn't wash out entirely at first, apply a small amount of shampoo to your roots and work down to the ends to help remove any excess oil.

If you have an avocado handy, mash up an avocado and give yourself a facial and a hair mask at the same time. Avocado is full of healthy oils that are perfect for repairing all that damage winter air does to the hair and the skin. Run the pulp through your hair and save a little bit for your face, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse out with no shampooing required. Healthy hair and skin at the exact same time! It really is that easy!
