All of these costume ideas are based around basic solid color sweat suits for toddlers or young children. The sweat suits can be found very inexpensively at major mass market stores such as Dollar General, Walmart and Target. The last time I checked, these sweat suits could be had for under $8, pants and shirt. So there we have the inexpensive base for our homemade Halloween costume, now to turn those basic sweat suits into the star of the Halloween night show.
Kitten- A fun, sweet kitten costume is perhaps one of the classic, always timeless costume ideas for little ones. The sweat suit used as the base used for this costume can be white, black, or gray. Ears can be made using a basic headband and triangles of gray, black or white felt. It's neat to mix and match the ear colors with the body color-a gray kitty can have pink ears or black ears, a black kitty can have gray ears or pink ears. Each ear can even be a different color! Secure the chosen colorful triangles of felt to the headband using glue and let dry completely. Using a black eyeliner pencil, draw whiskers across the cheeks of your little Halloween kitten. Add pink lipstick on the nose and ta-da, a cute Halloween kitten all geared up for spookity fun.
Frog-A green sweat suit is quickly and easily transformed into a fun, hoppity frog Halloween costume for any little reptile lover out there. If the sweat shirt is hooded, using glue you can simply add two white pom poms(easily found in any craft section of major mass market stores) atop the hood above each ear for the frog eyes. Use a black marker to draw pupils on the pom pom eyes. If the sweat shirt is not hooded, a knit cap can be used the same way or the pom poms can be glued to a headband to create those reptilian eyes. No further adjustments need to be made for a cute frog Halloween costume, however if you're feeling exceptionally creative, spots could be sketched out on the sweat suit using a black marker-many frogs have such markings you know.
Mouse-Using a gray or white sweat suit for the base, the mouse Halloween costume idea is easily put together. Take a headband and semicircle of felt to make the ears. Glue the felt to the headband and let dry completely. Another idea for the mouse ears is to glue or sew the semicircles onto a hood. Draw whiskers across your Halloween mouse's face with a black eyeliner pencil, color the nose pink and your Halloween mouse is ready for cheese begging!
Penguin-A basic black sweat suit easily becomes a fun-loving penguin Halloween costume with the simple addition of a white patch on the front of the shirt to mimic the tuxedo. Add a top hat and cane to make this penguin a show stopper.
Bumblebee-Starting with a yellow or black sweatsuit striped with yellow or black biking tape(found at the local bike shop or,more easily, the mass market store), this Halloween costume takes just a bit of putting together. Take black pipe cleaners and wrap them around a headband for the antennae, then glue two black pom poms atop the pipe cleaners and let the Halloween buzzing begin!
These are just a few quick and cheap Halloween costume ideas for your little trickster this year. Have fun!
