Homemade Halloween Treats

Easy to Make, but Oh so Delicious

Amy Brantley
Halloween is right around the corner and one of my favorite ways to spend the holiday is to make homemade Halloween treats. Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year and I make just as many homemade treats during this holiday as I do for Thanksgiving or even Christmas. Here are just a few homemade Halloween treats you may want to try.

Homemade Halloween Treats #1: Peanut Butter Eye Balls

Everyone has made buckeyes. You know what I'm talking about. Buckeyes are delicious peanut butter balls that are dipped in chocolate. You can easily make this into a homemade Halloween treat. Just make the peanut butter center as normal and then dip the center into white chocolate. Allow the chocolate to set and then decorate the candy to make it look like an eyeball. Kids and adults will love these.

Homemade Halloween Treats #2: Blood Cups

A really easy homemade Halloween treat to make are blood cups. For blood cups all you need to do is melt a 12 ounce bag of milk chocolate chips with a third of a bar of paraffin wax. Once the mixture has melted, brush the inside of silicone baking cups with the chocolate. Allow this to sit for a moment and then spoon in some strawberry jam. Carefully add more melted chocolate to the top and then place the cups into the refrigerator until they have set. Serve at room temperature. Kids will get a kick out of the "blood" that oozes out of these cups. You could also use cherry jam if you prefer.

Homemade Halloween Treats #3: Witches' Fingers

Another homemade Halloween treat that is sure to be a big hit are witch's fingers. For these cookies, all you need to do is mix a roll of store bought sugar cookie dough with some green food coloring. Once the dough is colored, take sections of the dough and make finger shapes. Bake the cookies until they are golden brown and then allow the cookies to cool. Once the cookies are cool, use vanilla frosting to attach a piece of candy corn to the end of each "finger". These are so easy, but so much fun.

Homemade Halloween Treats #4: Vampire Cupcakes

Kids love anything vampire related and they are going to love this homemade Halloween treat. All you need to do is bake chocolate cupcakes as normal. Once the cupcakes are cool, use an apple corer to remove part of the center of each cupcake. In the center, place a spoonful of cherry pie filling. Take part of the cupcake cores and cover the pie filling. Then frost the cupcakes with chocolate frosting and decorate with bat shaped candy.

Homemade Halloween Treats #5: Graveyard in a Cup

Another super easy homemade Halloween treat is graveyard in a cup. For this dessert, all you need are chocolate pudding cups, crushed Oreos, long sandwich cookies, melted chocolate, and frosting. The first thing you need to do is dip the cookies into the melted chocolate. Allow the chocolate to set and then use the frosting to write a message on each cookie. You will of course want to use a frosting that is a different shade from the chocolate. Then when you are ready to serve, open the pudding cups and sprinkle them with crushed Oreos and add the "tombstone" cookies. This is a great homemade Halloween treat for kid's parties.

Homemade Halloween Treats #6: Fudgy Bats

Who doesn't love fudge? For this homemade Halloween treat, all you need is a pan of fudge, a bat shaped cookie cutter, and melted chocolate. Cut the fudge using the cookie cutters and then dip the fudge into the chocolate. Place on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper and allow the chocolate to set.

Homemade Halloween Treats #7: Worms and Dirt Caramel Apples

Fall is the perfect time for caramel apples, but during Halloween they need to be extra special. For this homemade Halloween treat all you need to do is dip your apples in melted caramel (I prefer Kraft Caramels) and then roll the apples in crushed Oreos. Before the caramel hardens, add a few gummy worms.

Homemade Halloween Treats #8: Cream Cheese Ghosts

This is actually a homemade Halloween treat that would be fun served at adult parties. Prepare a plain cheesecake, but use a 9 x 13 inch pan rather than a springform pan. Once the cheesecake has baked and cooled, use a ghost shaped cookie cutter to cut our several ghosts. Then use melted chocolate to give the ghosts eyes and mouths.
