This first one is one of my favorites, my mother made them for me and my brother when we were little and they are fun to make and fun to eat. We called them apple bites. Just quarter and core an apple, cut a wedge from the skin side of each quarter, then press slivered almonds in place for teeth. If you're not going to serve them right away, baste the apples with orange juice to keep them from browning. They look like little mouths with big teeth. It is a healthy snack and the kids just love to make them and eat them.
The next one is a good snack and really fun and easy to make, I've been to several Halloween parties where these were the hit and the first things to be eaten. Heres what you do, Heat the oven to 450ยบ. Cut two small round prebaked pizza crusts into wedges that resemble the shape of candy corn. Top each wedge with rows of white, orange, and yellowish cheeses. Bake the wedges on a cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes, then let them cool for 5 minutes before serving. These are fun because it's pizza which every kid loves and they look like candy corn.
This next one is good for a spookier party but it is still fun for the kids. It's fangs dipped in blood made out of apples. Here's what you do, wash, peel and core the apples. Then cut each apple into 8 pieces. Dip the cut apples into the lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown. To prepare the fangs, cut the apple slices into long, narrow triangles, making pointy tooth-like shapes. Redip slices in the lemon juice and lightly sprinkle them with sugar. Arrange the fangs on a serving platter with the strawberry dipping sauce in the middle. Make sure you splatter some of the "blood" over the fangs. This one is really good for the kids to help prepare, except for the carving of the fangs of course. Getting them involved in making some treats really creates a fun activity before the party.
Finally, my sons favorite because they are really fun to make and really fun to eat. You will need those clear plastic gloves for this one, you can get them at a restaurant supply store. Place one candy corn at the tip of each finger, for the fingernail. Fill the rest of the glove all the way with popcorn. Tie shut with black/orange curling ribbon and add a spider ring to decorate. My son loves these because he really likes popcorn and like I said, he really loves to help make them.
There are thousands of these treats you can make for Halloween but these are a few of my favorites, plus most of these are pretty healthy. There are thousands of treats you can make that are sweets, which are good but when you have an opportunity to give your kids fun snacks that are healthy I suggest doing it. I hope these ideas help and give you some fun activities to do with your kids.
