Homemade Heat and Cold Packs

It's an aggravation dealing with electrical cords if you need a heat pack. The best solution is to make your own heat/cold pack. You need 100% cotton material for this. You also need feed corn (not cracked corn). You can sew your bags in a variety of sizes but leave an opening for the corn. Once that is done you can fill it a little more than 1/2 full of corn and finish sewing it closed.

These can be frozen or heated in the microwave. They fold around any part of the body that is required. I have made them longer and thinner to wrap around the neck or a joint. They can be made for approximately 2 dollars apiece if you buy the material on sale. A 50lb bag if feed corn is approximately 10 dollars give or take.
These make great gifts as well as having them in your own household. To go a little further if you are going to use them as gifts you can sew a quick removable "pillow case" that can be machine washed. Other products can be used but the feed corn works the best. If you use rice instead PLEASE ensure that it is completely cool before reheating it as it will scorch and have a smell to it. As I said before they make wonderful gifts for family and friends and only take about 15 minutes to make one. As I stated earlier they can be froze as well and can be used as an ice pack as well as the heat.

I am a 34 year old stay at home mother of 3. I have a signifigant other and too many pets. I often joke about opening a petting zoo. I enjoy writing but have just recently picked it back up after many years...  View profile
