During this cold season, we've seen so many terrible strains of both the common cold and the flu in our communities. To ease the suffering naturally at a lower cost, we've collected the homeopathic remedies we've used throughout the years to sooth our symptoms and help us heal faster, naturally.

One of the worst symptoms of many colds or the flu is an ongoing cough that doesn't seem to go away. Although there are many new, expensive remedies on the market such as Delsym which provides some relief, we've found several home remedies which are both effective and inexpensive.

Honey Vinegar Shots

Ingredients:

1 T honey

1 T apple cider vinegar

¼ c warm water

Blend together, hold your nose if needed and swallow quickly to make sure its still warm. Repeat every few hours as needed. I use a shot glass and divide the mixture into shots to make it easier to swallow.

Options:

Add 1 tsp cayenne pepper for its sinus clearing properties
Add 1 tsp of ginger for its throat soothing properties

Notes:

This mixture will not taste good, but it's the most effective remedy I've ever used for a long term, deep seated cough that didn't responded to over the counter cough syrup.

Sore Throat

Soothing a sore throat is one of the most comforting aspects of cold related homeopathic medicine. If your sore throat lasts for several days or is severe, you should consult your doctor. For minor throat irritation, we've found these to work wonders!

Salt Water Gargle

One of the oldest methods for cleaning and relieving the pain of a sore throat is also among the most simple.
Add salt to warm water, gargle and expel. Repeat as needed. The warm water and the cleansing properties of the salt help soothe and may boost the healing process.

Tea with honey

Some of the best teas for colds include: chamomile tea, peppermint tea, lemon tea, lavender tea, Gypsy Cold Care tea, and Organic Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat. The latter two are by Traditional Medicinals which has a full line of herbal cold soothing teas. Honey soothes the throat, so is the perfect sweetener.

Garlic

With its anti bacterial and anti fungal properties, garlic is a winner to boost your immune system, especially for sore throats. From eating food with garlic in it to chewing raw garlic cloves to brewing garlic tea, it can help when your cold is viral or bacterial.

Cut your cold short

Some common ways boost your immune system and cut a cold off in its tracks are the following supplements.

Vitamin C, taken every few hours but not to exceed recommended dosage.

Zinc, taken orally (never by nasal spray) not to exceed recommended dosage

Echinacea in tea or supplements, not to exceed recommended dosage
