Homemade Natural Chemical Peel

Abby Willow

Lemon juice is a natural acid, making it as effective as those expensive (and sometimes damaging) acid products that people use for peels on their face and for scars like stretch marks or acne scars (see Use Lemon Juice for Stretch Marks and Scars ). However, lemon juice doesn't contain the harsh chemicals that can burn the skin the way chemical peels in a doctor's office (or even the ones that you can buy online and dilute yourself) do. Learn how to make your own chemical peel to rejuvenate your skin without damaging your skin! So safe, you could actually eat it!

Why a chemical peel? Well, your skin rejuventates every day, sloughing off dead skin cells to make way for healthier, brighter skin. A chemical peel removes that layer of nasty skin allowing the fresher skin to take its place, a quick repair to your face, so to speak. So, to brighten up your skin and help your skin out, a homemade (and natural) chemical peel can give your skin a great boost. Here's how to make your own chemical peel, quick and easy!

Simply mix your acid (the lemon juice) with plain yogurt. Mix 1/4 cup lemon juice (or lime juice, either fresh or bottled) with a cup of plain yogurt, and mix well. Apply to your face, and allow to set for 15 minutes, then rinse. Voila! Your own homemade chemical peel, done right at home! You can make the peel weaker or stronger by changing up the amount of lemon juice you use.

If you want an actual peel, then simply apply the lemon juice to your face directly with a cotton ball or your fingers, then allow that mixture to dry. Then slather Elmer's glue all over your face or whatever face mask gel you have, allow to set as usual, then peel off. Perfect for if you have flaking skin on your face that you need to remove.

I use avocado, pineapple pulp, honey and cinnamon. Great article.

Interesting. I put avocado on my face the other day and my husband didn't know I did it was a facial. He was like, "What are you doing? Rinse that off!" I think I looked creepy with green, chunky goop on my face. Haha!
