Homemade Organic Fertilizer

JenniLee
Lately I have discovered and enjoyed making a really simple homemade fertilizer for any plant or vegetable garden. Having a toddler I wouldn't want her running around touching or getting into harmful store bought fertilizers, therefore I created this safe non toxic way to make your food, roses or plants grow wild. This creation seems to work much more effective than anything I have ever bought in stores, plus being safe and organic is always a earth friendly plus. The ingredients, that the majority of households have is, milk, eggshells, banana peels, and coffee grounds.

Begin saving all your banana peels in a sack as well as all your eggshells, just placing them back in the egg carton or putting them in the sack with the banana peels will do. Once you have a decent amount, depending on how much you want to make at the time, place all the banana peels and eggshells in a blender. Then using a small amount of whole milk, pour that into the blender as well, followed by a small amount of coffee grounds. Use enough milk where when you are done mixing and grinding the mixture it will look like a lumpy milkshake, no need to liquefy it.

After creating this organic homemade fertilizer take it out to your flowers, or any kind of garden, I personally used it on my fruit and vegetable gardens. Pour this onto the soil all around it and expect your plants to bloom healthier and better than ever.

Fighting off garden pests such as slugs, snails, cutworms, ants, even birds can be a pain. For all but the ants sprinkle some broken eggshells in your vegetable garden around the bases. The sharp broken egg shells will repel most all of these garden pests. For ants lay some cut up banana peels around your garden soil, they cannot stand the high levels of the potassium in the peels.

How this fertilizer works so well is the egg shells and the milk provide much calcium to your garden, the coffee grounds provide a high content of nitrogen to the garden, while the banana peels provide potassium to the plants.

The benefits of using this homemade organic fertilizer is it's very easy, very affordable, most everyone has these items in their home already, it is Earth friendly as well as harmless to your pets and children. This organic mixture will leave your plants and garden as well as the soil rich and healthy.

Laura I put in about a 1/4 cup per full size regular blender :)

How much of the used coffee grounds should I use per bag of potting soil for roses?

I don't usually add dairy or animal products aside from egg shells and chicken manure to mine either (though I would with worm compost!) but I make my own compost that gets mixed in with the soil before planting and it does wonders. Seems to do great, and the manure helps to raise the temp of the pile so it composts faster (just make sure to let it sit at least a month after adding the manure, or your compost might still be too hot and burn your plants).

I make my own mini compost using most of the items you've mentioned in your article, although I have never added milk to the mix.
