What could be easier than mixing up a batch of your favorite organic cookies, mocha drink or mulled cider and giving it as a gift in a fancy jar, complete with recipe and instructions? These easy organic food gift jars can be made one at a time or in batches.

1. Start with Your Favorite Organic Recipe

Pick one of your favorite unique recipes for cookies or a bread, or a hot drink, with dry ingredients. It is best to use a recipe that has your own special unique and organic ingredients or gourmet flavors. Give the recipient a gourmet food jar that they cannot get anywhere else.

2. Use Fancy Jars for the Homemade Gift

Use fancy and or antique jars to to give your gourmet food jars and extra touch of something special. The best part about this step is that you can use a variety of jars in different shapes and sizes, adding to the uniqueness of your homemade food gift.

3. Buy Organic Ingredients in Bulk

Purchase organic flours, sugars, beans, seeds, and nuts from the bulk bins at your local grocery store or whole foods market.

4. Make it a Family Affair

Have the family or kids help make the organic food gifts by measuring out the ingredients with you. Each person can be in charge of measuring out one organicingredient and adding it to the jar. Then the jar gets passed to the next family member.

This is an easy and fun way to make food gifts for the holidays together.

5. Organic Ingredient Fun Facts

Print out information about the one or two organic ingredients onto an index card If you used organic wheat flour, provide some interesting information bout organic wheat flour. If the organic recipe calls for raw sugar, give a one or two sentence explanation about the benefits of foods which are not over-processed.

Tie the index card to the top of the jar.

7. Print the Recipe on Recycled Paper for the Homemade Food Gift

Use recycled paper to print the organic recipe. Attach the recycled paper to the organic food gift jar. Be sure to include all of the directions and additional ingredients the gift recipient will need to make this organic recipe.

8. Label the Organic Ingredients

On a separate label, type out the ingredients list inside the organic food gift jar. This will help the recipient identify the ingredients, and give them a heads up in case they have any food allergies.

If the organic food gift jar contains wheat, nuts or gluten ingredients, be sure to note that on the label.

10. Use Eco-Friendly Packaging

Be sure to use some eco-friendly packaging when giving away your organic food gift during the holidays. Instead of plastic ribbon, use a recycled piece of lace, or even a pretty strand of paper raffia. You could also use recycled paper or plain white tissue paper decorated with vegetable dyes.
