Whether you're dealing with a rash caused by poison ivy, eczema, bug bites, or other minor skin irritations, you can use these homemade remedies for fast rash relief. Save yourself a costly trip to the pharmacy and find the ingredients you need right in your own kitchen. These homemade remedies will literally cost pennies to make yourself, but they are just as effective as the pricey rash relief creams and ointments sold in stores.
Oatmeal - Many anti-itch and rash creams include oatmeal as the main ingredient. That's because oatmeal works! The problem with store bought creams and ointments, though, is that they include other ingredients that may irritate the skin. When oatmeal is used alone in home remedies, it will help moisturize skin and protect it from irritation. Add two cups of plain cooking oats to a lukewarm bath and soak for fast rash relief.
Milk - Combine equal parts milk and water in a bowl. Dip a soft clean cloth in the bowl and apply to irritated skin. If the rash in on your feet or hands, you can also soak the area. Cover the area for up to 5 - 10 minutes at a time and repeat several times a day. Rinse with cool water.
Ice - What could be more simple than using ice for fast rash relief? Whether you're treating a chronic rash condition, or a sudden onset caused by a bug bite or poison ivy, this homemade rash relief works. Simply fill a Ziploc bag with crushed or cubed ice and apply it directly to the skin irritation. It numbs the skin and lowers blood circulation. Leave the ice on for 15 minutes at a time.
Baking soda - Baking soda is a wonder cure for itchy, irritated skin. Add 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and gently pat it on the skin. Don't rub! Allow the paste to set until it is completely dry before rinsing off. You can also add baking soda to a lukewarm bath for fast rash relief.
Banana peels - Bananas contain a natural sugar, which won't irritate skin. They also have antimicrobial properties, which soothe skin and help it heal. Gently rub the inside of a banana skin on itchy skin for fast rash relief. This works great for bug bites, eczema breakouts, and minor skin irritations.
Vinegar - If you're looking for home remedies for poison ivy irritation, try using vinegar for fast rash relief. Vinegar dries out the skin and pulls out the 'poison' of the plant. Pour ½ cup vinegar in a bowl of cool water. Dip a clean soft cloth in the mixture and apply to irritated skin. You can also soak in a vinegar bath if the rash is all over the body.
