Homemade Remedy for Ear Mites

We've all been there. The draining ears, the horrible smell, and a pet that is in constant misery because of these little parasites. There are many ways to get rid of the mites, most of which include a trip to the veterinarians office and ear drops or other things. I have a short and simple homemade remedy that works, or at least it did for my dog.

You will need the following:

White Vinegar
Rubbing Alcohol
A syringe or some way of getting the mixture into the dogs ear.

Mix 50% white vinegar with 50% alcohol. You shouldn't need a whole lot, most pets don't have very big ear canals. Shake or stir solution so that you are sure to get consistency throughout. Use your syringe to take the mixture and put it in your pets ear. You probably want to hold your pet down while you do this, because he/she is not gonna like it. I believe the alcohol burns, but it does kill the mites. This also is very effective at cleaning your pets ears. Gently massage the ear for a little while and then let the animal shake his/her head and get all of it out. You should only have to do this a couple of times to get rid of the mites.

After doing this, as with any meds, be sure to watch for any allergic reactions that could cause problems with your pet. If symptoms of an allergic reaction do occur, consult with your vet. Many times, the reaction will heal itself. If you wish you can give some children's Benadryl to your pet to counteract the allergy.
