We all want to be able to relax and enjoy pampering once in awhile, however, many of us don't have the time or money necessary to take a trip to a spa. Here are a few homemade spa and beauty treatment recipes I picked up at a recent Mothers of Preschoolers meeting. These are easy, luxurious treatments that will cost you pennies!
Chai Tea Mix
1 cup powdered non dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla flavored powdered non dairy creamer
2 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cardamom
* In a food processor or blender, combine all ingredients. Blend until the mixture is the consistency of fine powder. Each serving: add 3 rounded teaspoons to a mug of hot milk.
Hair Treatment for Dry Hair
1 egg
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon coconut oil
*Combine the egg, honey and oil. Massage the mixture into your hair and leave it on for twenty minutes. Shampoo and rinse thoroughly.
Hair Treatment for Oily Hair
2 parts lemon juice
1 part water
*Dip your comb into the mixture and comb it through your hair.
Herbal Shampoo
4 tablespoons fresh chopped herbs or 2 tablespoons dried herbs (rosemary, mint, or other)
1/2 cup spring water
1 cup baby shampoo
*Simmer the herbs in the spring water for fifteen minutes. Strain and cool. Add the baby shampoo and store it in a bottle. Use it as regular shampoo.
Refreshing Facial
2 tablespoons avocado, mashed
4 tablespoons honey
1 egg
1 teaspoon powdered milk
*Combine all ingredients, blending thoroughly. Apply it to your skin and leave it on for twenty minutes. Rinse well with warm water.
Luxurious Body Massage Lotion
1 tablespoon petroleum jelly
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon glycerin
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/8 teaspoon wintergreen oil
*Mix petroleum jelly, water and glycerin. Microwave on high for thirty seconds. Stir the mixture until smooth. Add extract and the oil of wintergreen. Stir. While the mixture is warm, rub on the skin.
Though using these treatments cannot be compared to actually sitting in a cushy chair, having your scalp massaged, it can give you a taste of the spa treatments which you either can't afford, or can't fit into your schedule.
